Retail Blunder Strikes Again

So I walked into CNA to buy a pen and walked out with a copy of Modern Warfare 2 for R349.99 because the sleepy people there marked it incorrectly.
After minimal fussing they let me take it. Thank God the customer is always right even when he's so incredibly, obviously wrong.

Now, how the hell do I play this with Steam and cellphone connection :p

(This has now happened to me three times this year - got a dvd box set for R149.99 which was supposed be R549.99 and a Simpsons Season for R99.99 instead of R299.99.)

This is why u always look through the shelves when u buy and not just take the first copy on the shelve. The people they pay to stick the prices on are payed with unsalted peanuts and thus dont give 2 shits about if the right tag or wrong tag is on. I got Close encounters of the 3rd Kind, ultimate edition for R80 coz someone didn't pay attention.

As for Steam with cellphone connection... good luck.

Thats what I always, they only had 2 copies, one with the usual R500 and something told me to look at the second one instead.

As for Steam - yeah good luck indeed :(

This one time I went to Incredible Connection to buy Perimeter (PC game) and it was only R80! It had just been released and was supposed to be R300 :D. I think they priced it as a DVD or something.

Well my fortune happened at Computer Corporation, phoned them up cause i just wanted comparative prices for my own pc business. Anyway i was looking at the AMD Phenom2 550 x 2. Most places you looking at R1000-00 up for it. I phoned these idiots and asked them do you have it? yes sir we do, its R550-00. I choked on my biltong and quickly change to graphics cards and just before i finished up the call i asked again how much for the AMD 550, and the woman said R550-00.

Well screw it im going over there. got there, asked the dude, do you have the AMD 550. Sure sir its R499-00. I was like can i see it. Sure sir here you go. Looked at it and beleive me i've been obsessing about this CPU since it came out. All was fine. R499-00.

Thats why I love shoping at Comp Corp, over the phone they say it more, I take more money me with and come out with a better bargain I could hope for and a bunch og extra goodies.

Phoned for the price of a CPU, asked for a 2.6ghz AMD they said it was close to R2k gatherd up all my cash I had and went the next day, got 3ghz x2 for R1500, 2GB RAM, a new mouse, and the Ubisoft exclusive Splinter Cell trilogy.

It's not just limited to games, I picked up a fullsize 2mm REEF "L" wetsuit for R600 at Sportsman's Wearhouse earlier this year. It was a printed price-tag with the item description on. The Mediums and XL's were going for R1500.

Steam and a cellphone connection is just going to induce hair loss.

The painful truth is that services like Steam are developed around the average international internet connection, fixed line 5mb/s, not some South African cellphone 3G/GPRS connection.

My personal experience with Steam and services like it, is that its impossible to use on a cellphone connection, painful on 512k and the future on 4mb/s+. You'd be amazed at how much smoother an experience Steam is on 4mb vs 512k. Something as simple as "Preparing to launch a game...." on 512k can take a loooong time, but rarely do I ever have to wait more than 1sec on 4mb.

My one friend was buying computer from take2.co.za, as he wanted to make a custom rig. Anyway, he ordered two 1gig sticks of Kingston RAM, if I remember correctly. Then, when he'd purchased everything, and the order was on its way, the guy at the dispatch center phoned him and told him that they'd put in two 2gig sticks of RAM! Also Kingston, and they didn't even ask for more!

Yes it will - almost lay down in traffic after trying to install Left 4 Dead once... but funnily enough when I got MW2, it took about 30 minutes total with nothing but my cellphone?! I was kickn ass in no time. Maybe it was the just a seriously lucky day for me (I get on every five years or so :)

Also Kingston, and they didn't even ask for more!

I bet that dispatch centre guy footed the bill for that one !

Well i once walked by the church and saw a R200-00 note on the side-walk. I felt guilty for 2 seconds then realized it was on the side walk not the church grounds itself...Needless to say i was 16 and in need of some money for Friday night...
