Riddle me this, Riddle me that!

You saw me where I never was and where I could not be. And yet within that very place, my face you often see. What am I?

Your reflection in the mirror?

Have to run off, so if I'm right, someone else can have a go

Yeah any reflection really. Who wants to go next?

Can I have a go?

Three gods A, B, and C are called, in some order, True, False, and Random. True always speaks truly, False always speaks falsely, but whether Random speaks truly or falsely is a completely random matter. Your task is to determine the identities of A, B, and C by asking three yes-no questions; each question must be put to exactly one god. The gods understand English, but will answer all questions in their own language in which the words for ‘yes’ and ‘no’ are ‘da’ and ‘ja’, in some order. You do not know which word means which.

So, what will you ask?

I'll ask somebody else to sort out this mess, is what I'll ask

Think i will ponder this over the weekend, i worked out the 2 angels truth and lie one so im keen to give this a shot - just not with 2 beers in me :D

I have no idea, for the sake of the thread maybe explain it FP

Well, that's not what I wanted to hear:p

It is quite a tricky one and I must say, it took me a while to understand the answer. I did not figure it out myself.

The aim is to find out who Random is.

Q1: Ask B: "If I ask you 'is A random', would you say ja?"
  1. If he says ja:
    • B is TRUTH and A is RANDOM
    • B is RANDOM
  2. If he says da:
    • B is RANDOM
    • A is not RANDOM
Now we have found a god which is NOT RANDOM: A or C

Now ask the non-RANDOM god the next question:

Q2: "If I asked you 'are you false', would you say ja?" Please refer to the quote at the bottom of the post
  • If non-RANDOM says ja:
    • then he is FALSE
  • If non-RANDOM says da:
    • then he is TRUTH
So, up to now we figured out the identity of either A or C as TRUTH or FALSE.

Now for the 3rd question to the same god as in Q2:

Q3: "If I asked you 'is B RANDOM', would you say ja?"
  1. if he says ja:
    • then B is RANDOM
  2. if he says da:
    • then the god you have not spoken to is RANDOM

So we know the identity of A or C and with Q3 we just established the identity of B or the other god. Now we can deduce what the identity of the 3rd god is.

Because of the following: said:
Assume that ja means yes and da means no.
If I asked you Q, would you say ja?
  • True is asked and responds with ja. Since he is telling the truth, the truthful answer to Q is ja, which means yes.
  • True is asked and responds with da. Since he is telling the truth, the truthful answer to Q is da, which means no.
  • False is asked and responds with ja. Since he is lying, it follows that if you asked him Q, he would instead answer da. He would be lying, so the truthful answer to Q is ja, which means yes.
  • False is asked and responds with da. Since he is lying, it follows that if you asked him Q, he would in fact answer ja. He would be lying, so the truthful answer to Q is da, which means no.
The same list can be compiled if ja means no and da means yes.

The riddle clearly states that "each question must be put to exactly one god"
I suppose this means your question should only be about 1 god at a time:wtf:

I hope this makes sense...I had to go through it a couple of times before I agreed with the answer...

I think I can follow. Not one I'll be throwing at the guys at the Saturday afternoon braai, but pretty impressive logic.

Jeeeeeesh what an explanation o.O

A Man jumps out of a 20th story window of an office building, he lands on the pavement totally unharmed. How is this possible?

I have a headache.

Im going to kick off this week with a somewhat made up riddle myself.

A young fellow, all covered in Tallow,
Stood so strong, but not for long,
His head shone bright, it would light up the night,
The longer he stood, the less he could.

What is he?

That's a nice one. A candle maybe?
