Courier didn't get to my office by Friday afternoon for some reason. :/

Still bummed about that dude :(

We are currently using The Courier Guy for orders outside of Gauteng, and suffice to say we are not impressed so far. You should definitely get it tomorrow. Sorry.

It's cool duder, I still love you long time. :) I ended up spending the weekend longboarding in between dolphins and doing some work stuff.

I watched the Yogscast 9 part video as mentioned before, however I found it to be very drawn out, not very to the point. It gave a good indication of what the gameplay is like and such but the best video to give a to the point review is this:

Hyper WTF is Rift? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FZVyS0BTus

This gave it a good rundown and best explanation for making up your mind (apart from playing it yourself). I am still surprised I had hardly heard about Rift until now.

My 1.24GB patch has another 300MB or so to go, but every couple of minutes I get a network error code #1034. Turning off my AV has helped somewhat, but it's still persisting. So I pretty much have to be present throughout the entire update sequence to continuously get it downloading again manually.

It's been a loooong night. Hopefully it'll be done by this evening.

I should warn those who are not on uncapped connections - I was unsure at first, but I was monitoring my network traffic last night. I can't give exact figures - but RIFT is much more intensive in terms of usage than any other MMO I've played ... I'm guessing it uses about 2 or 3 times as much bandwidth.

Yeah RIFT definitely uses more bandwidth than other MMOs. RIFT can go chew through 100MB a day quite easily.

I would disagree there Shadow, I pay 25c a meg so whenever I play an MMO I keep pretty accurate records of their usage to see if it is affordable to play it. Here are the screenshots for my weekend Rift playing for Rift.exe:

riftexebwusage.jpg
for Saturday and
riftsundayusage.jpg
for Sunday.

Notice how the usage spikes on both days at almost the same time. I was in a mass 50+ toon zone event both times with 2 raids plus Defiant raid interfering at the same time. The rest was soloing and grouping in 5 man instances.

Compare that to DC Online I played earlier this year:

and WoW running dungeons before that:

And you will see that Rift compares almost exactly to WoW in BW usage. I never raid in MMOs but I have heard that a raid in WoW can push the 40 meg an hour record, much like Rift is doing.

I am using netlimiter 2.0 to measure all my bandwidth usage.

I'm so glad I'm on uncapped, I haven't considered the games bandwidth usage until now. My only concern is that my ping stays in the 200 - 300 range. :)

If you're not already, then friend me in game. The name is Edaan. :D

Thanks for confirming Shrike. Like I said, I was guessing to some extent. I'm not specifically monitoring traffic using a specialised app like you are, so I don't have definite figures.

I do however keep an eye on my network traffic ... and the graph runs considerably higher than it did when I played Aion. Part of this is probably attributable to the fact that I'm regularly running into the crowded conditions around rifts - but even when I'm standing around doing nothing in a quietish area RIFT is steadily chewing. I'm merely making the note for others so they can watch out.

Of course, the regular patches aren't helping either - three patches since I've installed on Friday. Small maybe, but still a lot bigger than I've experienced with other MMOs when applying minor fixes.

If you are on Overlook (PVE) shard, look up my main character, Elzene.
Decided to roll on this server since it is PVE (was on PVP server and ganking from level 30+ is just too much - I could hardly get quests done and normally run around alone, so no chance against 2+ groups), and Overlook seems like nice quite server, never goes above medium population.
