Rise of the Tomb Raider may see a release on other platforms after all, as the Xbox exclusivity agreement "has a duration," according to Microsoft executive Phil Spencer.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Spencer confirmed that Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive on Xbox One and Xbox 360. "Yes, the deal has a duration," the head of Xbox said. "I didn't buy it. I don't own the franchise."

While Spencer said he couldn't comment on how long the exclusivity deal lasts — that's between Microsoft and Square Enix — he did compare the agreement to similar arrangements with Ryse and Dead Rising 3. Both of those games are Xbox console exclusives now headed to PC.

Microsoft revealed Rise of the Tomb Raider as an Xbox exclusive at the company's Gamescom press conference yesterday, with developer Crystal Dynamics explaining that the deal would help make the franchise "one of the biggest in gaming." That announcement left a lot of players feeling burned, especially PlayStation 4 owners. Spencer said he understood that sentiment.

"I get the reaction I see," he said. "If I'm a PlayStation person all of a sudden I feel like, the franchise has gone. I didn't buy the IP. I didn't buy the studio. It's not mine. Where this thing will go over time, just like Dead Rising or Ryse, we'll see what happens with the game."

Rise of the Tomb Raider is slated to come out holiday 2015.

And xbox 360? So that means not to expect anything really great in terms of visuals then.

It's probably going to use the same engine as the original Tomb Raider did last year.

or it will be developed by 2 devs in the same way forz horizon 2 is being made (same core story but different engines) or the way titanfall (same engine but scaled back) ended up on the 360
