I liked the original well enough. This one is really releasing at a really bad time, it's going to do very poorly if they don't move that date.

I briefly played 1, but somehow lost it. I wanted to explore the game more. I'm a big RPG lover, so this goes into my "will get eventually pile".

It wasn't absolutely terrible, but it missed a lot of what made the first game good.

Risen 1 was very nice because it played a lot like Gothic 2 (was made by the same people, if I remember correctly). Risen 2 deviated a bit from this, but not necessarily always in good ways.

huh :O Are you sure you played number 2? Because OMG it was one of the worst game I have ever played lol

Well then you might like Risen 3 again. As they stated that they going back to Gothic route. Also they have plans to weave Risen and Gothic Universes back into each other once IP is back.

I eventually started playing the first one the other day. I expected very little, so was pleasantly surprised by it.

I loved number one, hence the avatar. Number 2 was very different mechanics which I didn't really like. The story however was quite nice.
They said Piranha Bytes are going back to the roots, not necessarily Gothic routes.
I do have high hopes for number 3 but I fear it will be islands rather than one open landmass which I am not fond of, part of the roots magic was stumbling in to a troll as a level 3 character and discovering how badly your ass can be kicked.

Hmm, I think they'll go back to Gothic roots though. As far as I know Risen was their (spiritual) sequel to Gothic 3, seeing as they split with JoWood before they made Gothic 4.
