JOHANNESBURG – The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed a motorcyclist has been shot dead in what appears to have been a road-rage incident in North Riding this morning.

The police’s Edna Mamonyane says the motorcyclist confronted the driver of a car on the corner of Malibongwe Drive and Boundary Road at around 7am.

She confirmed both men were armed.

“The driver of the vehicle shot the motorcyclist and the motorcyclist died on the scene. Police and the JMPD are busy on the scene now.”

Paramedics on the scene say the driver was also wounded and rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

It’s unclear what the argument was about, but this will form part of the police's investigation.

Jeepers, I get angry at people on the road but I would never pull a piece out and shoot, unless the Motorcyclist attached the driver ? who knows, have to wait for the full story/report.

Someone told me about this earlier today - sad stuff but in some ways a symptom of the stress that we're under as a nation.

Super crazy...and on Valentines day too :(.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the 39-year-old rider was shot at approximately 7am.

According to police spokesman Lt-Gen Katlego Mogale, the motorcyclist confronted a motorist with a gun following an argument. The driver, who was also armed, then shot and killed the motorcyclist.

The wounded 44-year-old driver of the car was treated on the scene by paramedics before being transported to hospital under police guard, said JMPD spokesperson, Edna Mamonyane. She could not immediately confirm reports that the man was shot by the motorcyclist.

Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann said the man was in a serious condition.
Police investigations are underway.

Ah bugger, he implied that I needed a brain and eye transplant :P

Anyway that's not important. He just proved himself to be one of the problem bikers.

There are many many of those on the road, I am on the road at least 4 hours a day in that time period I can promise you a doos on his bike either comes flying past at 200km/h or cuts through traffic just to pull in front of you at the very last second, thinking I'll brake for him...I always brake...

Yep, I have no sympathy for them. 95% of them give the other 5% a bad name and I'm being generous by thinking that there are 5% who are actually driving properly.

One day I'll invest in a dashboard cam for the day I don't get a chance to brake

I don't get people being angry at motorcyclists...in my experience they have 10x more situational awareness than car drivers. e.g. If I intentionally drift 20cm to the left side of my lane to let them pass easier they acknowledge that 20cm with a head nod. In contrast car drivers barely acknowledge it if you come to a full stop to let them in.

Northriding is a little hectic tbh. Weird mix of yuppies hyped up on caffeine and people leaving the location (deepsloot i think) in barely drivable rust buckets.

I was super impressed at how many pedestrians in that vague area wear high visibility jackets when walking to work though. Demonstrates a level of awareness & judgement that isn't all that common in SA esp lower class folks.

Well guys i'm sorry to say this and hate me for it but i have first hand exerience seeing as i'm a biker and a motorist, i have had a doos in a BMW come up so close to my wheel that i could actually put my foot on his bonnet, if i went left he came in behind me if i went right he did the same, it went on for about 12 km's when i decided to open up i was doing 220 and this clown still tried the same thing.

I have had people swerve in front of me and try and push me into barriers because there is a safe space for me to pass and they have to sit behind a truck and wait for a safe pass. I have had motorists overtake almost right into me from oncoming traffic and if i flashed lights at them they would just flash back and even hoot at me and give me the finger as if it's my fault for driving on the right side of the road.

I have almost been killed by a few motorists that are impatient and then overtake into on coming traffic. so this whole thing goes both ways and that is why i have a gopro it's on record when i ride just for in case some nut hits me and drives off

So this is a 50/50 debate sure there are wrong bikers just as there are wrong motorists.

I always thank a motorist that makes way for me ALWAYS be it with a nod or my hazzards or a nice wave of my left hand.
