Could someone please help- Just want to find out which is better to buy- the Xbox 360 or PS3.. Will do a bit of gaming but would like to use it for multimedia purposes.... Thoughts? What are the pro's and cons and which console will be best?

Ultimately, they're both more or less the same. Make your decision based on which exclusives you're more interested in playing. Any other reason would be stupid.

PS3 Because you have Blu-Ray, you can also get Backwards compatibility, and you have better HD. Xbox is pirated easily :p and ja you just receive more options when it comes to PS3 than you do sexbox :p

You're opening a can of worms there, buddy.

Here's mygaming's XBOX vs PS3 thread

Azi and Syco are both right.

PS3 has blu-ray, but crappy controls. PS3 can(could?) be an awesome linux box where xbox can connect to windows media centre.

Games are roughly the same price, but depending on which games you prefer (uncharted/god of war/gran tourismo/little big planet vs halo/fable/mass effect/forza) you'll always end up buying the console that can play the right games.

I have both. I must admit, if my PS3 didn't have bluray i'd never use it except for playing little big planet. In fact, I often don't even bother connecting it up for Bluray on my 32" LCD screen. My sig is testament to the amount of time I spent on my Xbox vs my PS3.

Xbox live is very user friendly and involving. PS3's comes across as more matured/technical.

Console Price wise you simply cannot compare the two.

What Azimuth said. Basing your choice on anything other than which games u plan on playing would be stupid. Both are equelly good media centers, except that the PS3 has the BluRay player, but that is only a plus if u have a HD TV.

+22

The only real hardware advantage either has is the PS3's blu-ray player. That's it really. So, as Azi says, decide which games you would prefer which are only available on either PS3 or Xbox. That and your budget. The Xbox is, from what I've seen, generally a fair bit cheaper than the PS3.

No more PS2 titles on the new PS3. Some PS1 classics work, but only through the Playstation Network.

PSN = the online PS3 gaming network. Google it for more info.

Just for those who don't know though, Blu_ray is utterly awesome.

My two cents: Since you stipulated multimedia with some gaming, it perhaps also depends on what kind of multimedia viewing you want to do. Blu-ray is pretty much the only multimedia capability that PS3 can boast over the Xbox 360.

ALL my PS1 discs work on my 80gb PS3 as well as on my brother's 120gb slim. PS2 backwards compatibility only works on 60gb PAL machines. PS1 games work on all revisions of the console.

I agree with a lot of the other guys. Its very similar, so the choice is yours. PS3's games is a lil more expensive, BUT the reason I bought a PS3 is for the blu-ray player.
