RUST Bans over 4,000 Cheaters.

Well it's good that they're stopping those fools that makes it less fun for everyone else just trying to enjoy the game for what it is. I'm not saying cheating should never be tolerated (if you want to cheat in your single-player game then go right ahead - sometimes it's fun to mess around after you've already finished the game - i.e. GTA games with tank spawns and the lot) but I am saying that by doing this in connected worlds it just makes it a far less enjoyable experience...why can't we all just run around with rocks without getting instantly killed?

I couldn't agree more, If you cheat your a dick, and ultimately ruin the game for yourself...

Question : If you get banned, and you have paid for the game, is it not technically illegal to ban you? I'm sure they could argue that they were not warned, and have now paid money for a service they cant use... Unless its in the T's and C's?
Yup, I'm sure in the T's and C's it says you lose your right to the game if you cheat. Remember, you never actually own the game, just a license from the publishers, the same with all software. That's why there's issues surrounding selling your games.

Will these people be permabanned from the game, including when it's officially released? That seems a bit harsh to me, the game's still in alpha and I'd think there would be quite a few people finding bugs and exploits and interesting ways to change the game. The developers could see why people are cheating (hard to find resources, grinding gameplay, etc.) and use that info to improve their game. Banning them from an unfinished product that they have supported by purchasing, allowing the developers to finish their game.

Question, won't cheats also compromise the effectiveness of their testing and research making the final games development harder?

I kinda agree with this - on the one hand you can understand that people are frustrated with the cheaters and VAC seems to take a bit longer than everyone would hope for so having them spend any time on this at all means that they're not spending the same time and effort on the game itself. Ultimately they will never really know how effective 'cheatpunch' is until the complete game is released and pushed out into the wild but at the same time I just don't see the same sales records being recorded once it does release as a non-alpha/beta/whatever game...I think they'll have sold more copies before then so it'll hardly be significant.

Now I'd also love for them to release a copy of the server files that can be used privately where the private server admin can decide on what is and isn't allowed (yeah yeah I know you can rent a server but that seems like a money-making affair)...will this ever happen?
I'd like to think it would but at the same time I think they're just reaping in all that extra cash via the dedicated hosting companies at this point - I would too!.

Either way online-cheaters should get banned but I think their initial focus should be on letting VAC ban and having them focus on the actual game instead (well unless they've now taken some of their mountain funds and hired some additional staff purely to make it a better experience in which case I guess I'm kinda cool with it all).

Yeah a problem all dev teams must face is the balance between providing new and fresh content versus ensuring that the content that is already available is actually a good experience to use. When you factor in limited resources to this problem then you have an even greater focus towards attempting to maintain this precarious balance.

Not sure, but doesn't it only get pricier closer to the final release? If that is the case I'd suggest you jump on to the wagon now.

That's usually the case, but I'm asking myself: Do I want to pay to be an alpha tester and possibly become thoroughly tired of the game before the final product has launched? Same problem with DayZ.

Aye that's what I was thinking. I guess it's an easy way out right now with this early-access stuff where you can pretty much do whatever you want but at the same time it's popular enough to really make any nay-sayers kinda get shoved to the side, I mean I like that the community can give input but at the same time I feel that sometimes the devs get this special little chip on their shoulders (but maybe I'm just jealous, yeah most likely I'm just jealous).

At the end of the day I love Rust enough at this point to not really care about anything other than them getting rid of those one-shot mofos though so I'll happily accept whatever they do provided they just do it the right way (a.k.a. my way lol :D)...just hoping that the servers will eventually be released to all and not limited only to these hosting companies.

That's a good point...the game is going to change somewhat from what I've seen so far (e.g. removing of zombies and replacing them with red animals that will eventually be replaced with some other kind of mutants...a.k.a. zombie things lol). I guess it's fun playing through the different iterations but at the same time when the end comes it'll maybe have worn out most early adopters. I guess it's just a matter of wait-and-see for most (and I'd love a Steam sale so that I can get my brother to join up!).

Well, I bought them both at a lower than retail cost and am basically avoiding them until BETA :p

Hopefully Rust comes on special again and I'll grab it then. The Minecraft vibe appeals to me, plus czc is taunting me with threats to lock me out of his fortress if I only sign up at launch :P

DayZ looks awesome, but I think I'm going to wait for a final release on that one.

Well these kind of games should hopefully allow you to play without getting tired of them, I'm sure you'll need to put massive hours in these games to go anywhere, very much like minecraft and other MMOs.

I just want to play DayZ and set up a shop selling ammunition and supplies to people :) Have dreams of staring a semi-mafia in that game :D

Lol, setting up a hardcore Gang. Have assassins in there and alles.

Hmmm; perhaps even establish a system whereby cheaters have their names posted on a bounty board and whomever kills them gets all their stuff :)
Good idea! Does anyone know if this stuff is actually possible in DayZ? I'm considering getting alpha, but only really if something like this is doable :p

If you can't yet; then maybe get in contact with the devs and have em add this function to the game :p
