Rust South Africa - Gamers Haven server

RUST SERVER WIPE EXPLAINED: 9 March 2014 - 20:00

So.. after removing all the addons which i thought might be the problem again for the server crashes regarding memory useage too high, that did not help.

So then i tested by wiping the world.. which made a HUGE improvement from using 1.5GB memory to 600MB memory being used, we only have 1.6GB memory availeble and it's not something we can simply "increase" as it's handled by Multiplay and all the Rust servers runs on the same spec, i'll try my best again sending multiplay a ticket as this aint working, if this is the case we will need to schedule updates atleast every month or two.

If we don't do the wipes at this stage we will sit with a unstable server as most of you guys noticed already which aint helping either.

So we had to wipe the server making the server stable again for everyone to play on it, i really do hope you understand the choice thats been made as i don't really have alot, if it was as easy to just increase the memory sure that would have been done avoiding the server wipe.

This was multiplay's response to when i asked to increase my Rust servers memory:

I'm afraid to say that, without significant pricing restructure, we are simply not in a position to increase the memory allocation for this game. Rust is currently the most resource-intensive game we have on offer, beating the likes of DayZ and Battlefield 4 by significant margins, yet the pricing is still relatively low by comparison. We would need to increase the price somewhat in order to offer more memory allocation, and we are trying to avoid raising costs at this point, as we're fairly sure that a price hike would be much less in favour by the customer base than any other action.

Interesting dilemma with the server memory. Obviously with the game still in alpha and presumably resource management still being worked on, I can understand why Multiplay doesn't want to increase costs before the game is final.

So what happens with the server wipe? Everyone loses their progress? Maybe now is the time to jump in :P

Yeah the wipe just completely clears the server, over a long time there are so many buildings everywhere, alot of abandoned houses and shacks, server gets quite laggy eventually

Just like Crableg said :) The more structures being build ingame the more memory is being used and multiplay only gives us all 1.6GB memory at this stage and with a clean server wipe the server starts with about 600Mb memory and as it progress and people keep building and adding objects ingame the more it gets and the less stable the server gets sadly, i've notice with about 60 - 70 player peak on our server it last about a month before a wipe is needed.

Server is currently down as multiplay is applying the new patches, unfortunately i have no ETA as you all know how long multiplay can take some times, i'll let you know once it's back online.

Server back online! Gamers Haven - [GamersHaven.co.za] in the server list or you can press F1 and type net.connect 105.227.0.3:29215 and press enter :)

At the next server wipe i will be more active again, if you miss the server wipes in this game and come in late, you will find it rather difficult to build / find a spot without being harassed often. This is especially true on highly populated as myself and Crableg have seen.

I think the enjoyment in this game stems from the thrill and panic of trying to build quick and safe enough before getting owned by the other players. I really do hope Rust incorporate a battle Royale system and give the admins more features in game like event scheduling etc.

Have you got a copy of the game yet James? Perhaps you have a birthday coming up soon? :)

I have not got it yet. Still not sure I want to buy in at this stage. Maybe if it comes on special again.

As for establishing a foothold in-game; are you pretty much screwed if you don't team up with friendlies?

I would say for the most part, that yes you would definitely need to team up if you want to get anywhere in the game with "ease"

I have a large base at the moment on a UK server by myself and its taken about 18 hours game play to get it up. This amount of time as you can understand would be halved etc and even more so when you have 2-4 people building.

Their are quiet a few of us that jam and can show you the ropes man. Check your steam gifts tonight at about 6.

Hey, wtf!? I'm the one who gives out the free games!

(Assuming there will be a copy of Rust in there and not a coupon for 10% off Toki Tori 2 :P)

But hey, you sure know how to bait me in - now I suppose I'm obliged to join in - tough life eh?

You'll have to mind the fact it's Diablo day and I've got an expansion to power through, so I might only show face in a few days time :D

SIES Stop being nasty :( I told you I cant play the game :(

What version of the client do you need to play? Also will a cracked version work? A friend of mine is asking me, if it works I'd like to try the game before I buy it, or this there like a demo version? $20 is alot to pay for a game i might only play for 2 days.
