RWC 2011 Game - Not impressed

Seems like this game is to cash in on a world cup year. I would probably expect a huge price cut after the world cup.

Question - Why did they stick with Jonah Lomu? Yes, he was an awesome player but he retired many years ago....

This is from the link above - Sums up the game in one paragraph.

Developer HB Studios has essentially taken its EA Sports-published Rugby 08 title from the PlayStation 2, eliminated the Tri-Nations, Six Nations, Super 14 (or Super 15 as it would be now) and basically every other tournament that isn't the World Cup, applied a minimalistic HD graphical overhaul, added perfunctory online support, and pushed it out the door. Which, as a full-priced release, just isn't acceptable.

I think that even though he retired, he is still iconic. Think Madden for Rugby. Also the average age of gamers who play sports games are between 20 and 40, so they should remember Jonah Lomu. Personally, I'm keen to check Rugby Challenge out

One of the reasons I didn't go for RWC 2011 was because of Rugby Challenge.

Well the game is called All Black's Challenge in NZ - so I guess they thought that wouldn't go down well outside the country.

LOL! True! Not so PC...

This was just a load of rubbish made to cash in on the World Cup.

Rugby Challenge on the other hand is looking pretty sweet, just because it actually has some features - or at least something different.

And the graphics look much better, and gameplay won't take much to improve on from what I've heard - Particularly interested in the franchise mode :)

I've read only bad reviews of this game so definitely not falling into that trap,it doesn't even have the license for the host nation.
Can they still call it Rugby World Cup?

I got the demo off XBL and got rather frustrated with the game after only matches. Seems a bit of a slap in the face for rugby fans.

I have no idea what everyone is on about, I must have received a special RWC 2011 edition to everyone else. The game is brilliant, it exceeded every expectation of mine. I've also owned every single rugby title starting from rugby 1995 on the sega mega drive so I believe my views are valid.

Compare any sports title like madden,fifa,nhl,nba etc to its previous years release and you will realize that enough has been done to justify it as a full title release. I doubt they had 4 years to develop the game, just because there is a four year gap between a game release doesn't necessarily mean that they have been developing the game for that long. I imagine the real duration for development was more likely 2 years at most. Sure they stripped some features which I personally loved like super 12 and Heineken cup teams and comps but heck its a world cup title so they have every right to exclude those competitions from their game.

Since the start of this thread the AI and gamplay features have been massively improved through a number of patches so I would suggest you and every other skeptic give it another try.

I guess we are doomed to wait another 4 years for the next rugby title to be released.

I've also played most of the preceding rugby games, also since the megadrive version and my experience so far is that most of these rugby games dont measure up with the gameplay if you compare it with other sports titles.
I downloaded the demo of RWC on XLive and my expectations were broken like in completely.
Graphics = Crap
Commentary = very crap
Gameplay = the worst stinking crap you can imagine
Oh, and the menus and overall interface didn't impress me much either.
I don't even want this game for free.
