Time to take that prized copy of Shadow of Chernobyl out of your safe. Oh and while you're at it, bring Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat too...

I'll stick to what I said Long ago. Stalker games are good, specially with some mods, but I hate the fact that its so linear. I would have preferred a more open world, and not a connect the dots type one (meaning, Go from A, pass through B to get to C,D,E, Instead of being able to go to E directly so to speak) So I found myself never revisiting the same areas. There could have been much more things out in the zone to do, more vendors, more little towns etc etc.

Anycase, I am yet to play Call of Pripyat

So you never revisited the same areas? Here's the route that you would take if you want to finish the game with the proper ending:
Cordon » Garbage » Agroprom » Agroprom Underground » Agroprom » Garbage » Bar » Garbage » Dark Valley » X18 » Dark Valley » Cordon » Garbage » Bar » Rostok » Yantar » X16 » Yantar » Rostok » Bar » Garbage » Cordon » Garbage » Agroprom » Agroprom » Underground » Agroprom » Garbage » Bar » Army Warehouses » Red Forest » X10 » Red Forest » Pripyat » Chernobyl Exterior » Chernobyl Interior » Portal Stage *

Notice that, for example, if you finished the game, you visited Garbage 7 times at least. Also, once you reach the Bar, you can go to the Army Warehouses, do some quests for Freedom, then return, go to Rostok (Wild Territory), scrounge for artifacts and do some quests, etc. There's no ticking clock that's forcing you to go immediately to the next goal for the main quest line. I challenge you to name an FPS that is less linear than S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.

* I have this stuff on hand because I used to speedrun this game using the brilliant Redux mod (without using game glitches) with an English buddy. My best time, start to finish, 4h24m. There are parts in the sequence that you can skip and still complete the game because it's not linear.

Hehe nice writeup :D

What I mean was, I never visited (EXPLORED) the same area twice. The other times I had to go pack past garbage for example, I would just run past it, not going through it to see if something new popped up etc. They could have added more the the zone to do, more locations, more hidden quests / missions etc. They are forcing you to discover locations in a certain order as the game uses a sorta "hub" system. If they used a more open world scenario, it would promote longlivety as you could easily mis some places and locations while exploring, only to rediscover it at a later time or new playthrough.

I finished the original stalker with the "true ending" 3 times. Upon playthrough 2 and 3 I didn't even go outside quest locations, ran and did the quests as they came, as I knew what was in the world etc. If it were more open like Morrowind or oblivion, where you almost ALWAYS find something new when you pass through the same location, like a hidden cave, even tucked away little towns in the trees. They could have made the world more "dynamic" so to speak which would make me happy in my pant.

Is it okay to love one game but still like some others on the side without telling the game you love that you like a few others too?

Still sitting in steam library & some other games have priority right now. Haven't even finished portal yet. Eish.

Steam sale was weird anyway...got 1st and 3rd stalker, but not CS?

Speaking of clothing, what do your S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S look like?

Mines a pretty interesting combo. I have a heavy exo suit, but than my primary weapon is the hunting shot gun I get early in the game and use it all the way 'till the final stages. Armour from 2012 with a rifle from 1812

Better post screenshots.

Strangely enough I'm currently playing Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl with the Stalker Complete mod.

So far I don't really see why people love it so much. But maybe it will grab me when I get a bit further in the game.
