SA digital tax to hit online gamers in the pocket

But why!? Considering how treasury is throwing money away, we have no shortage in money coming from taxes. E-taxing will hinder the growth of an important evolution in our culture.

How will this be enforced? I'm worried that online places will just not sell to South Africans anymore because it's too big of a hassle.

Look I'm not exactly happy about this, but this isn't exactly an good argument.... "I don't want to pay taxes online because the tax money is thrown away". That would apply to any tax. It was inevitable, you should pay at least VAT on a purchase.

Ye exactly how do they enforce the online aspect without causing issues for the companies providing the services? Is it just added on our end when we make a payment? If not, I see a lot of places just saying too hell with dealing with Africa because why should they have extra hassle.

Then leave the country and live in country you happy to pay taxes in. What reason are digital products exempt from taxes but nothing else?

How do they track purchases through Xbox live and PS store?
Some ppl have different region accounts with different pricing to games.

Thing is we already pay tax on anything we buy online and we pay extra due to the crap exchange rate we get too

This is just getting insane the Government is trying anything now to make up for their mistake wit e-toll and the amount of money they loosing and now they have to mess with gamers past times too. this country is getting more and more absurd every day and how do they expect the rand to get any stronger with the amount of corruption and the way that this country is being run into the ground.

Next thing that's going to happen is that gamers are going to start resorting to criminal acts and piracy is going to be getting a boost through this i feel as well

Yes, I believe its taxed, but it goes to the US, in the case of steam. What I believe will happen here is that Valve will have to register for tax, they will remove American tax for items being purchased from south africa, and add VAT.

If that is the final case then it shouldn't affect us too much. [At least with regards to the actual money payed. ] I wonder though what the exact nature of their implementation and monitoring systems will be .

This is the point I'm trying to get across, us paying VAT on something we purchased was inevitable, be angry if its implemented in a shit way. And yeah voting the DA will make no difference, I'm fairly certain they want people to pay VAT on purchases as well.
