SA Dota 2 tournament launched by Mweb GameZone and 10ten Gaming

Really excited about this! I want to enter a team but 2 or 3 members are still without beta keys. Will 10ten or MWEB supply those beta keys or will this tournament only be open to teams where all the members already have beta access?

That is an excellent question sir. I shall try and find out.

MWEB has confirmed that you will need access to the Dota 2 beta in order to enter. They will not be able to hand out Dota 2 beta keys.

One can easily buy a key for $5 - $10. Though paying for a game that's going to be free to play does seem counter productive, the bright side is that by the time the game launches you'll have a few levels and be able to play in higher level games, and not the noobie-filled entry level games - not to mention all the items you'll find during the beta trials.

I'd like to enter but don't have enough friends who are interested.

I haven't played for a while, but previously the levelling system wasn't operational. Is it working now?

Maybe you can make a team up from guys on the MyGaming forum :) If you win I'll throw in some MyGaming swag :P

Unfortunately the keys sell for $39.99

No that's just the legendary pack. This includes a DotA2 invite along with like 10 item bundles for heroes like Axe, Natures Prophet, etc. All in all not a bad deal if you like lots and lots of items. Think of it as getting 40 items in Team Fortress 2. hats hats hats

Occasionally players get awarded "Treasure Chests" during games. These chests are free, and contain a random item, with chances of getting some exceedingly rare items or custom items. Unfortunately, you can only open these with a "treasure chest key" that you can buy from the DotA2 store. These keys cost $2.50 each. There are lots of players willing to trade a DotA2 invite for 2-3 keys, or for a custom courier (which starts at $8).

@James - yeah the leveling system seems to be working. Or at least, the illusion of it is :P

Yes the leveling system is fine now james,

Also guys i will ask my friends if any has a spare key they willing to toss away, i will post in here tomorrow how many i manage to get my hands on and hand them out.

Joining the comp tho with my mates should be fun :)

We'll be hosting a competition soon where some lucky person will win a Dota 2 beta key and a Roccat Kova + mouse

:)

So if you haven't found reason enough to register yet we've been in contact with some top dota 2 teams regarding exhibition matches that would take place a couple of days after the group stages close (around the 23rd of July).

We've got positive confirmation from aL. We are currently in talks with mTw, and coL will confirm next week. These matches would be offered to the top teams heading into the knockout stages (basically the leading team in each group). What I'd like to know is if you guys have any specific teams in mind (aL and coL would have to be played on US East with around 300 ping which I found playable, but not sure how others will find it).

If we arrive at a situation where we have less international teams than group leaders it would be left up to a community vote.

So in essence this will be a MWEB hosted tournament with almost no South African teams playing...

I think you have entirely misunderstood the post. We have 29 registered teams for the tournament, all of which are South African teams (our rules also hold that only South African teams are eligible for the tournament).

The above post concerned what is termed "exhibition matches". They are not official games and are held entirely for the benefit of South African teams.
