SA indie game goes monster trucking on Steam Greenlight

I tried this game out last night. It's kind of fun, but, unlike the new Death Rally,
I wouldn't buy it. Still, pretty impressive for a locally made game.

Help SA’s Monster Truck Racing – Extreme Offroad through Steam Greenlight

blatant copy of Ivan 'Iron Man' Stewart's super off road?

Hi Totempole, I'd be interested to hear why you would buy the new Death Rally over the Monster Truck Racing game.
In my opinion the new Death Rally wasn't at all fun to play and was in fact very disappointing. Reading through the forums on Steam, most of the comments were fairly negative about the game.

What is it that Monster Truck Racing lacked that Death Rally didn't?

Super Offroad was a big influence in the design of this game, we made that track as an ode to Super Offroad, although it's not an exact copy :)

I'd like to do that; it's difficult to root out which are the SA games on greenlight unless it is overtly indicated.

There's a couple of SA developers on the Unity forums, I'll keep an eye on their projects and let you know of any that have got something to show.

Looks fun! Reminds me a lot of ironman. Love the pitstops as well. Voted

Very professional looking - not my type of game but bodes well for SA gaming devs

Thanks for the comments and feedback guys, it means a lot to us.

Noted, but I would still wonder if it is still not reuse of existing IP.

Well if you look at the screenshot, its at the end of the day just a screenshot of a dirt track in an arena. Aside from the cross roads on the track, there's not really much 'IP' there that can be copyrighted. It's hard to copyright 'parts' of a track, but certain official racing arenas such as Silverstone etc, have their design copyrighted, and you need rights to use the track design in your game.

Regarding IP infringements, the actual game though is played in a totally different view using a chase camera.
If the camera was behind the truck instead of an isometric view, then the game starts to look like Monster Truck Madness :)

Thanks, I'm just curious that is all.

Its good to see the local production companies making an effort. Hopefully we will have many gaming companies entering the market in the years to come.

We are very proud to announce that the final demo for Monster Truck Racing Arenas has been released, and that the game is now available for pre-order from our website. If you pre-order the game now, you get immediate download access to the full single-player version of the game, which includes all 7 tracks and the time trial car crushing arena and long jump arenas!

We are busy finalising testing on multiplayer and that will be released shortly thereafter.
After many more months of hard work and polish we are very happy with what we have produced.

Please go to www.meltdown.co.za to download the demo and please support us so we can continue making great games!
Please also tell your friends :)
