Popular supermarkets including PicknPay, Shoprite, Fruit and Veg City, Woolworths and Spar have been identified as stocking incorrectly labelled meat products, City Press reported on Sunday.

The newspaper reported that the retailers had largely suggested that the findings could be blamed on cross-contamination, where one type of meat was transferred to another on chopping boards, saws, hands and utensils.

Shoprite CEO Whitey Basson told the newspaper there was not...read more here: SA supermarkets named in meat label scandal

Not sure what the big issue is, if you are cool with pig anus in your hot dog then what's so terrible about a bit of warthog.

For one... labeling consistency. Quite sure you want what you buy and pay for or else you are a bit silly imho. When it reads orange I want orange not an apple. If they are skimping on the meat god knows on what else they are, or would you be happy with chickens like pnp did? (refroze, unfroze, spike to last longer...)

Sure meat is meat, but you forget other other side its about. Not all of us eat pig anus or viennas so to say ;)

If I was Woolworths I'd take MyBroadband to task. When I initially read the article I was surprised to see Woolworths mentioned as their name had not come up before. I was not able to access the actual City Press article that exposed the shops named earlier as I had not bought the paper but it has now been published online. I see no mention of a Woolworths anywhere...

Look harder. It's there.

Feel free to point it out.

EDIT: On closer inspection I did spot it. If there is anyone out there who thought French polony included nothing out of the ordinary though then they are naive. Apologies. I'd happily accept some chicken in my polony though. Vastly different to donkey, beef, buffalo etc in your pork (especially if you follow certain religious beliefs).

If you are eating processed meat then I really don't see how you can be surprised by it's contents. If you want to know what you are getting then buy fresh cuts and you won't have a problem.

I just have one comment, Boarding school, I spent 5 years with questionable labels and I'm still here. Granted I skipped plenty of meals that or sold my pork chop to the highest bidder

Agreed. Although really, buffalo and warthog, it's like getting game meat - kinda - free free. :D
