Sapphire Radeon TOXIC R9 270X 2GB vs. nVidia GeForce GTX 670

I am looking to build a new gaming PC from scratch, but I am finding it quite difficult since I read alot of mixed reviews of parts, and want to build a strong system that would easily last a few years while remaining within budget ( +- R14 000).

I am currently struggling with picking a GPU. I have always been an nVidia fan, that is why the nVidia GeForce GTX 670 looks like a quite solid GPU for me. After reading a while, I saw ALOT of people recommend the Sapphire Radeon TOXIC R9 270X 2GB, but I am quite sceptical going AMD since I have not had good experiences with their driver support for switchable graphics in my laptop.

Anyone care to share personal experience with the cards or any advice?

Personal experience, i have had bad issues with Nvidia and since then only bought AMD cards. Therefore I would always recommend AMD.

But I am biased though. And hope this thread doesn't turn into another Nvidia vs AMD fanboi war.

That is exactly why I am asking, I am also biased in favour to nVidia. But looking at all the reviews, I must consider what the best GPU would be and not personal past experiences with a manufacturer.

i had the 6850Toxic from sapphire and before my gpu upgrade to the R9 270 i could actually run BF4 un High graphics on that card so sapphire is not bad and looking at the price on that it's a way to go have you compared the two cards with each other cos i think the Toxic wins hands down

There is no denying the Toxic is an amazing card, but its stupidly over priced.

Rather get yourself a Gigabyte R9 270X Windforce 3 Edition.
They overclock incredibly well, the cooler is fantastic and its nearly dead silent.

That card is roughly R1000 less than the Toxic while performance is nearly identical, the toxic just has a higher stock clock but you can easily raise the Gigabyte card to the same clock speed of the toxic and it'll perform the same.
