Hey guys

With Modern Warfare 2, Tekken 6, Gran Turismo 5, Fifa 10 and others on the horizon; I was thinking it was time to dive head first into online gaming.

However, this being SA; online play for consoles is not much to write home about.:(

Anyways; how does one go about setting up internet for the PS3 (please excuse the fact that I'm a total novice at this:confused:). How big is the SA community and which games are being played? Is neotel fast enough to play games properly internationally?

I think you might be surprised there. :P

Although I've never set up a PS3 for online play before, I can't imagine it's all that different to setting up an Xbox. Simply hook it up to your router via cable or wireless, and get it talking to the intertronz.

Be warned that taking a PS3 online can consume a fair bit of bandwidth with patches, firmware updates, and such. With Sony enforcing no strict policies regarding download sizes, I've heard these can spin out as much as 300+MB at a time.

Assuming you're in a high coverage area, you shouldn't have trouble gaming online with Neotel - certainly not locally, at least. And you really shouldn't have trouble finding local gamers.

I almost envy you. Going online for the first time is like discovering gaming all over again. It's pretty special. :)

Thanks Azimuth. I know, online play is way cool. I regularly played CounterStrike online at a mate's house. That game really wasn't for me.

But playing my favourite console game's online is going to blow my mind. I can see it now.

Counter-Strike. *shudder*

Xbox live is not local supported but I play online almost every night.

use the local forums to make a lot of local friends and you will find PLENTY of local games.

Modern Warfare 2 is going to rock Xbox live and PSN for a good few months, lots fo local games :)

Yeah Q121. MW2 , if anything like the original, is gonna be awesome. As a point of curiousity, how big of a cap do you need per month to play ps3 online - assuming I play locally and sometimes internationally.

I've also heard that the unlimited cap offered by Neotel for R999 per month is not really unlimited. You get reduced speeds after 15Gb or so? Is this true?
