Screen not coming on with new motherboard

Like a month or so ago my motherboard died, apparently the SATA controllers don't work too well anymore. I don't know much about hardware so I don't know if this is the problem, all I know is when I put my PC on most of the time it didn't detect any drives and when it did start up, I would be in windows for anything from 5 - 15 minutes before I got a blue screen of death. When I restarted after that it didn't detect the drives anymore and the whole cycle just kept repeating.

Yesterday I got a motherboard from someone and a friend came and installed for me, but now my screen doesn't come on. I've tried everything: tried swithcing between my graphics card and the on-board graphics, reset the BIOS, tested the RAM modules individually, but no luck. The guy I got the motherboard from says it works fine, the only reason he doesn't use it anymore is because he bought a second graphics card and this mobo only has one PCI-Express slot. It's an Intel DG33FB board.

Anyone have any ideas about what could be the problem?
 
Everything starts up fine, the fans spin up, my DVD drive's lights come on, etc. Don't know about the RAM beeps will check and post back.
 
Reason for asking to do that, is that if the speaker is working, it should beep cause there is no ram in the machine. If there are still no beeps, the board could be faulty (eventhough your mate says it is) OR your cpu might be incompatible with the board, incorrectly seated or the board needs a bios update for your CPU.

It can also be a reversed IDE cable.
 
Could you post what CPU you have please?

There are a few more things you need to try before you give up. Firstly, check to see if your CPU is supported by that motherboard as it stands at the moment. You may need to put in an older CPU (maybe your friends) and then do a BIOS update so that it recognizes your CPU.

It could also be that you need to reset the BIOS using the jumper on the motherboard, sometimes because the BIOS has been set to his hardware it might need a reset to get it working with your hardware.

and lastly take out the CPU and check very carefully if you see any bent pins on the motherboard where the CPU sits. A lot of people put LGA 775 cpu's in the wrong way and end up bending a pin in which case the motherboard is tickets, don't even try bending back, it's too hard.

Try those and see if you come right.
 
I have a P4 3.2 GHz CPU. My friend who installed the motherboard for me said he did reset the BIOS with the jumper. I'm not gonna attempt taking the CPU out because I don't wanna break something.

I tried starting up the PC without any RAM, but I don't hear any beeps. I think I remember my friend saying he did not plug in the PC speaker.
 
So, the system doesn't boot at all, no HDD activity, spinning at all?
When I read the Subject, I thought it might be a GFX card connector problem, cable problem or that the gfx is shot.
Cause then you can eliminate them one by one.

Try another screen / cable to see POST or get into the BIOS to reset?
If you can do this, you can at least start with some kind of repair of the OS to see if it will install drivers for the mobo / cpu / gfx or even try and get into Safe Mode.
 
Everything boots up as far as I can tell, the fans on both the CPU and GPU spin, the DVD drives boots up, etc. It's just the monitor that doesn't come on, i.e. I can't see anything on it and it tells me to check the signal/cable. Monitor works fine, tested it on another PC.

As far as I know everything in my PC is working fine, it was just my old motherboard that started to give problems so I replaced it. I don't even know if it was the motherboard, my brother is an IT technician and he said it was the SATA controllers on my old mobo.
I can't ask him to come take a look because he's in Joburg and I'm in Bloemfontein, don't know anyone else that knows anything about hardware except the guy who installed the new mobo for me, and he doesn't know what's wrong.

Please check something for me in the bios check if your gpu is the pci express and not onboard(it has all kinds of names in bios just look.)
Hmm okay do you have a gpu with more then one connector at the back? In witch one did you plug it?

Have you tried powering down the screen then on again is it still black?
 
I can't get into the BIOS, the monitor never shows anything at all. Have only one VGA connector on GPU and switching the screen off and on does nothing.
 
Okay remove the Gpu and plug the screen into your onboard.
Do you have the motherboard booklet with you? Since you said your friend already cleared the bios this should not be nessasary.

Already tried switching between GPU and onboard, nothing happens. Also don't have the booklet.

Yes but did you remove the gpu then cleared the bios then plugged the screen into the onboard?

Have you tried any other screen with this motherboard?

Your problem is your CPU, it is not compatible with your motherboard, i am assuming you took your exsisting P4 3.2GNZ LGA775 CPuU and pluck it on a newer board that has no support for the older proccessor. Get you hands on a newer processor from a friend Core2Duo or Celeron D or Pentium dual-core and i am sure the PC will boot.
 
Pretty sure that is your problem, since intel is well known for not having the best compatiblity for older CPUS
 
I'm not too sure how "new" the motherboard is. All I know is that's it a socket 775 board, I don't think that's the problem. Checked the motherboard's specs online, it does support a "Intel® Pentium® processor in an LGA775 socket with an 800 MHz system bus" which I'm pretty sure is what I have.

That's pretty much exactly what I did, and yes I tried my LCD that I use for my PS3 as well, still nothing.
