Screen Tearing on Ps3 and Sony Bravia 40"

Hey all

I am experiencing screen tearing, particularly in Assassin's Creed 2 and Borderlands. It does show on other games but not as prevalent. Bad Company 2 has it as well ;[

Any solutions to this? Read a few things on V-sync but there is nothing definitive there..Hopefully someone knows how to get rid of this since its pretty lame to have a decent setup and still experience it ;/

What model Bravia do you have? Have you set the TV to "game" mode?

Current Setup: 40" Sony Bravia W Series , PS3 250GB Slim. Yes i have, it actually automatically switches to game mode. Do you experience screen tearing at all?
 
That's weird man. According to the Sony website, and assuming I've got the right model number KLV-40W450A, your TV supports the 100Hz motion flow features so I don't see that it's your TV causing the tearing. Perhaps it's the title. Do any of your other games show this much tearing? I honestly do not think it's your TV. I've heard on a lot of internet game reviews that "tearing" is an issue in some titles...not with hardware.
 
Its time to do some troubleshooting, start with the basics - use another console (if possible), swap cables, try another game, use another tv etc.

If you have any modifications to your console then that could also be a cause.
 
Its a problem with the titles, not your screen. Google "screen tearing sony bravia ps3", you'll see your not alone. Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted, Resident Evil 5, Final Fantasy 13 etc. all seem to have screen tearing problems for a lot of people. A lot of console games don't have Vsync enabled, normally because of frame rate dips which can get noticeably worse with vsync enabled, so they leave it off and hopefully the tearing isn't too bad.

If you want to make dead sure its not your screen, hook it up to your PC, fire up a 3D game and enable vsync, shouldn't get any tearing. If you do get tearing at this point, send your screen back.

Yep got the motionflow model, but you turn Motionflow on or off to use it - and this option is not available when you choose the 'Game' mode setting.

Havent tried a pc on it yet, wil do so to check. I actually noticed that screen tearing varies among games. I dont get ANY on Killzone 2, while it is pretty apparent on Assasin's Creed 2. Uncharted 2 also doesnt have any tearing that is really noticeable. Any of u guys who own Assassin's Creed know what i am talking about?
