Secrecy bill PASSED

riddle me this: how is wearing a shirt going to make a change? Why aren't we all in streets like egpypt?

no we'd rather do the easiest non resist path to protest.

If we could we would have been sending black emails over black shirts, I mean that's even easier. Only way out under anc is either real mass action or Coup d'état.

People gathered in protest all over the country, including protesting outside parliament.

And Egypt is an extreme. Hope our country never devolves into that mess.

The fight's not over yet, but it was handed a heavy blow today...

Yeah. And Egyptians are still not happy. Look at how bad Italy got and still is.

You're asking people to care.
That's just way too much...

Lets be honest for 1 second... 90% of ANC voters and supporters know for a fact that there is widespread corruption within the ANC government.
And yet, time and time again they still vote ANC.

And now you want those same people to give a crap about "white imperialist newspapers and media"?!

Yeeeeaaaaahhhh... good luck with that btw!

I still think it all comes down to one thing: We are on our way back to Apartheid, this time it won't be a racial thing but rather a ruling party benefits thing.

I also think that this is the start of something bigger, if they are going to get away with doing this then what is on their list next?

Night of the long knives anyone? Paranoid people think this will still happen.

There is one thing I know for sure, if this does get worse, I'm not going to stand still and let it fly. We need to make a stand at some point, get other countries to see what's going on. What's REALLY going on...

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Who will guard the guardians...well said.

This removal of our freedom of speech may be the first step to total government control, or otherwise known as communism. And apartheid will come with it.

One day, the anc will lose control though, and it may be at the next election. Anc supporters are on the decrease, and they know it. They anc is just trying to get as much control as possible before it loses all it's support.

i wish I shared your optimism. buit i'm afraid that the truth of the matter is much more depressing. the ANC has brilliantly ensured that the masses are kept uneducated and illiterate. This helps to keep them in power. The black majority will continue to blindly vote for the ANC, regardless of the corruption, regardless of the lack of service delivery and regardless of the total disregard for proper leadership.

case in point? Ficksburg. Despite the fact that they government has let them down and then killed one of their leaders, at the very next municipal elections, who did the sheep vote for? The very wolves who keep preying on them!

Today it is a lot harder to contain information.

Its a sad day today ..
No good can come of a law that stops the media from shedding light on an already extremely corrupt government ..
the next thing that can happen is the ANC raiding my house for me saying anything against the government ,
like they do in North Korea , then they censor all media and ban what cant be censored ..

Its a sad day for this country.
These kinds of attacks on freedom and free speech are a problem even in supposedly free western countries. It doesn't take long to find examples of this.

Misguided as that may be there can be multiple reasons why they do that. Nor would it be the only example of people voting for a party for poor or misguided reasons.

You give them too much credit.

I say the same thing about people who keep voting for conservative parties. Jokes aside I recall seeing interviews with people in scenarios like the above and although they knew there were problems they truly thought they were voting for the lesser evil. In other words no-one had convinced them they could be trusted to look out for their interests.

Now I hear often that all laws must be obeyed, no matter what the law mandates, and that the way to get a law changed is to lobby and vote. So I wonder would those who support that position suggest we obey a law that allows the government to hide information or break that law to expose them?

I hope this can be stopped at the constitutional court .. Either that or we set the country back a decade or more.
No good can come of this.
