So for those that are felling a little nostalgic...

Arguably one of the best video game consoles ever made, the SEGA Mega Drive (or Genesis) has lived in the heart of gamers since the mid-nineties. These days it’s not easy to get hold of one, that is until now.

At Games‘ revised SEGA Mega Drive is now available in South Africa, Apex Interactive announced.

The console itself is much smaller than the original Mega Drive or even the much smaller Genesis 3. Due to its lack of expansion ports, don’t expect it to be able to utilise the SEGA CD add-on. It does include two smaller-factor wireless controllers and includes two ports for standard wired SEGA controllers.

The unit also features a standard AV-out connector, though in this day and age an HDMI connector would have been a nice addition.

The unit comes with 80 built-in games from the company’s more popular titles, such as Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Streets of Rage, as well as more obscure titles such as Vectorman and The Ooze. While most of the games have already been included in the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection, it still looks to be a great piece of kit for retro hardware fans.

The unit will retail for R1499 and should be in stores soon, however no exact launch date has been given. It is distributed by Apex Interactive in South Africa.

The list of included games:

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Alien Storm
Altered Beast
Arrow Flash
Bonanza Bros.
Chakan: The Forever Man

I used to love my Mega Drive back in the day. Played on it so much and then eventually sold it.

There are some great games included with this deal but I don't think I'll pay R1500 for it. If it was about R700 I may have considered it.

Was gonna post this thread too! Beat me to it! :p

For R1500.00 it's pretty steep... but it could be justified as a collector's item.

I'd pick a brand new SNES for that price up in a heartbeat though :P

I had to dig to find their manual to find out if this thing is licensed by Sega. Apparently it is, but I'm not spending that kind of cash...

I'm just checking out the manufactures site. They also have a handheld version which looks pretty cool. I'm just wondering why Sega would license a product that has an SD card reader for reading ROMs...

Edelweiss I would pay R1500 easily for a new SNES with a 100/1 cartridge... My sister still has ours somewhere... I must ask her about that...

I originally had a counterfeit Megadrive and built up quite a collection of games (quite a few from Cash Converters), the console stopped working so a few years ago I bought an original off eBay in the UK and had someone bring it over - it was great playing those old games again.

I had them all all the sega systems up until the dreamcast. I loved panzer dragoon.and ofc the MK games i still remember the moves and scorpions fatalities :D. i might get this for my boys

I still have my megadrive but havent touched it in years and probably never will because...........emulators.

The End

this is col but yea dont think i would get it A price and B i still have mine not sure if it still works :O
