Serious help needed.

So I am sitting here watching some Champions League when it reminds me I haven't played fifa in a while. I should do some of that. Then I saw my vita and thought, damn, final Fantasy is so awesome, I have to play that. Then I looked over at the shelf and saw all the other magnificent games I still need to finish. Between work and forced social interaction, gaming time gets taken away and the dust gathers on the backlog.

So now I am calling on the combined wisdom of ancient forum elders and youngens alike to provide help in time of need.

How do you manage your gaming time? What are your dirty tricks and tips to sneak in some gaming? What was your best excuse to get out of seeing the family for one more dungeon in Diablo 2? How do you stay awake at work after you had to do 'just one more run' in spelunky?

You will not only be helping me, but also the rest of your brethren and sistren on the forum. Let the advice Commerce.

Just play what feels right.

I have a ton of games to play but i only focus on 4 or 5 at a time (currently Toribash,Hearthstone,X3 Terran Conflict,BF4 and soon to be APB Reloaded.I plan on only playing Hearthstone every 3rd day so i can finish all the quests that are stacking up,Toribash is always fun (Especially Judo),X3 Terran Conflict takes up most of my time (only installed it sunday and i already have 10h in),BF4 is kinda meh atm with all the skilled players and i don't feel like trying my best,APB Reloaded looks fun with all its customization options.

I usually go to bed at 11-12 and wake up at 6-7 in the morning (work starts at 8).Dragon energy drink helps but it can make you puke on some days like most energy drinks (not a good idea if you have a hangover)

I think we've discussed this before, but I can relate to your dilemma. Between work, two fantastic little boys, wife time, chores etc gaming time becomes less. We sadly cannot increase the amount of time available but the demands on our time seem to become more each day.

As DC said, enjoy the time you have to game and just play what you feel like. It's supposed to be something to enjoy not another thing to worry about.

I agree with the previous comments. When gaming starts feeling like work, you're doing it wrong and it will eventually force you to drop it entirely. Play what you feel like, when you can.

I have a huge steam library that needs playing and the only rule I have is that I have placed a moratorium on buying new games until I have finished a few in my backlog, regardless the price. But this is more of a financial/emotional choice because I feel guilty about blowing money on games when I have so many unplayed.

I'm kinda lucky in a sense, being a full time single dad to a two year old. Recent divorcee, I therefor can't afford to go out. So I get stuck at home, though the only play time I really get is when he's sleeping. My social life is my ADSL as I don't blend in well with others, while having a little one (or shall I say people don't socialize with me).
So for about 2 or 3 hours a night, that is my time.

I don't get much time to game and yet I've amassed a big library of games. It's so funny that when I was younger I couldn't afford games but I had tons of time and now I've got a lot of games but no time to play.

What I did to manage this is to first create a Trello list of all my games. PC games, 360 games, games I'm currently playing, games I've completed and games I want to come back to one day (Dark Souls I'm looking at you!).

I put the games that I want to play next at the top of the lists. Though this changes depending on how long it takes to finish the current games.

During the week I don't get time to play games most of the time. At work I'll create a rough schedule of what I want to do in the evening. Most people will cringe at that put time management have helped me so much this last year. I'll say from 5 to 6 it'll be tv and eating and then from 6 to 7 it'll be browsing the web and relaxing and so forth. I work on personal projects during the week though so that's why I don't get time to game.

Friday evenings I normally get some game time. Then weekends I'll make a rough plan on what will be happening and if there's time I'll game. Especially on Sunday afternoons.

So if it doesn't sound like work then time management is my tip. It not only helps for gaming but for all the other things you want to do too. It's amazing how much time I wasted before I started taking time more serious.

I can offer you one piece of advice - stop buying more games if you're already struggling to find time for the ones you already own. Seriously - you're only making it worse. Stick to 1 or 2 games at a time, preferably completely different genres, and just play those with the time you do have.

Also, never use excuses to get out of seeing friends or family in order to sneak in gaming time - they're infinitely more important than any dungeon in Diablo will ever be.

As for the late nights - I learned my lesson. I just have enough self control to switch the PC off at a certain time so that I don't look like zombie when trying to motivate my staff.

So many good replies. Not going to quote all of them. I think the problem I have is buying games. Being in a position for the first time where I can spend on games, I tend to go overboard. Especially since I can do most of it through the Ps store.

And I am not saying it's a chore to play the games. I feel bad because I don't get time for them. Goddamn life and it's challenges. I miss the days of gaming for 18 hours a day.

Lucky bastard. I had to go to the soon to be SO's sisters brothers birthday. Haven't even gotten back to dark souls in like 3 weeks.

I dont watch tv. That gives me quite a bit of gaming time during the week.
I have a friend who wakes up way early to game before work sometimes. When his family wakes up game times over though.

As married Gamer and father of 2, I totally sympathise. My Vita, Wii U and Ps3 don't get touched! Pc gets used for gaming a bit. Xbox mainly, whenever I can. Forced to play when missus foes to bed, the I end up sleeping very late and am kaput at work next day :(
