Settlers 7, Beware

Those interested in the game probably know at this point that Settlers 7 comes with Ubisoft's new DRM (requires an internet connection while playing). Settlers 7 however seems to be having some serious problems with its in-game authentication process and recognizing logged in users and their serial keys.

The Ubisoft launcher will log in and launch the game smoothly, from there it goes downhill because as soon as the game's loading screen is done, you'll be greeted with a "Server not available! Exit to Desktop or Login" window. The servers are in fact available, they however do not recognize that your account has the Settlers 7 game tied to it.

There is currently a 50 page long thread of people not being able to play the game since release over at the Ubisoft Settlers 7 forums.

Server not available - unable to play at all?

It is just a phase in the gaming industry, soon they will stop it. I hope.

I agree 100%. I don't support that DRM mechanic either. My copy of AC2 will sit sealed in its PC case until they day someone releases a way past this DRM feature. Hopefully that "someone" will be UBISOFT themselves realising that it's a bad idea and scrap it. Until then, I'll buy UBISOFT title for the XBOX360 / PS3 only.
