I have a dillema. I only have budget for one big shooter on PC this Christmas. I am looking for something that will last me a year without having to constantly fork out for DLC to stay current. Preferably it also needs a decent local following to encourage better game play options.

My options are:

Star Wars Battlefront - I played the beta, enjoyed it, but never got into it. I am a big Battlefield fan and played 3 forever! Just not sure how long the Star Wars skin will stay appealing. Co-op will count in its favour.

Black Ops III - Only ever played Modern Warfare online and am not the world's best twitch gamer. That said the zombies are fun (on console split screen is my only experience) and I live for co-op. Also heard mods are coming back with dedicated servers!

Rainbow 6 Siege - played the beta a lot, loved it. Shorter rounds and lots of variety, but not sure if local gamers will flock to it like the other two. Also has co-op!

Battlefield 4 Premium (Outsider chance) - Loved BF3, played a bit of BF4 with the week of Origin Game Time. At least I know what I am getting into. These days it can be had for R200 and will have change left for the DLC. Is anyone still playing it? Will they be paying it all of next year?

No shooter at all - get Fallout 4, Mad Max, Assassins Creed or Just Cause 3. You know, because shooters suck.

I went with Other. None of those games look all that appealing to me. Rather go with Fallout 4, Just Cause 3 or METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN if you haven't played it yet.

So...

Star Wars:
It's much, MUCH more than just a reskinned Battlefield I can guarantee you that. If you break it down to numbers, there are actually more maps and modes than COD or Halo 5, so yeah, content is there. There will be, however a whole host of DLC that will be added to the game which you need to consider. The Beta only scratched the surface of the game.

Black Ops 3:
You probably know by now exactly what to expect from and COD or BLOPS game, and BLOPS 3 is more of the same. It's not the worst choice you can make, and again a whole slew of DLC will be made available for the game throughout the year. The community is also sure to stay very active until the next title launches inevitably next year same time.

Rainbow Six Siege:
It's a whole different type of shooter, focusing more on team work and precision than the other two mentioned above. It's a slower paced game, but much more tense. Also, it's highly depended on playing with friends, more so than Battlefront or BLOPS 3.

Battlefield 4 Premium:
Yeah....no....with all the new games coming out, it's community is sure to dwindle onto other games. The only positive is that its cheap to get now.

Other:
There are a HUGE amount of other games that will scratch the shooter itch and add lots of additional singleplayer content on it. I would recommend Fallout 4 of Just Cause 3 in this category.

Overall, my vote would go to Star Wars Battlefront.

No offence...but BO III is not 'more of the same' by any stretch. If you say this after actually playing it I question your reasoning and would like to know how and why you make that statement.

The gunplay, engine, movement system...everything has been overhauled. Add to the fact the weapons are all basically perfectly balanced from the damn get go, it's an amazing title.

More content than you can shake a stick at too.

Don't think any of those will keep you busy for a year tbh.

Just cause is probably the only one that would survice but then again can also get boring really fast if you don't have friends to play it with.

Unreal Tournament (4). It's free, so you can afford Just Cause 3 as well. :D

This right here.

Blops3 has some terrible bugs, specially with matchmaking. Star wars is another glorified battlefield and barely worth the money. Rainbow siege might be worth it, but I bet you that community is going to go sour very quickly. Battlefield is really just another flipping Battlefield, bad company 2 was still the best IMO.

If you really strapped for cash, why not spend the money on a game where passion is a bit more involved? Insurgency comes to mind, not expensive and it's got solid gun play. And a nice community. Or GTA Online is also pretty good with friends, but the hackers and cheaters are an issue.

Thanks guys! All valid options!

BTW, axon1988, I already have Insurgency! look me up on Steam!

I think we might have played together last night? Either way, last night was the first time in like a month since I've played. A lot has changed.

Blops 3 would probably be the one I would get, but I am in no rush. All these games are buggy at release and that's just stupid considering their price.

Black Ops III is really great...
Single player is very quick, but we don't buy them for single player do we..
Multiplayer is where the fun is.

I still don't think it is as good in terms of game play and accuracy as Modern Warfare III was, but you cannot get a game there without the most ridiculous hackers on the planet.

That being said, BO III needs quite a serious machine if you want to play it at full taps, and you also need a fairly big pipe and very low latency on your line.
