All right, here goes...

From my perspective this is a matter that could have been easily resolved with far less namecalling and hurtful comments. There's no need for that, so I'm asking everyone to keep any further discussion civil.

While I'm tempted to weigh on the othering of certain forum members with words like "elites" being used, it's best to focus on the situation at hand and see if we can resolve it.

I don't really want to get involved with the Steam giveaways, but I'll step in if there are irreconcilable grievances. Those who are hoping for me to take sides, or lay down the law or whatever, you'll have to wait awhile longer. I've never been a fan of acting without consultation.

Here's how I would think a normal dispute in community-run service (like the Steam Giveaway thread) to go:

 1. PM, IM, or e-mail the organisers and ask about what happened, then state your grievance.
 2. If you are still unhappy with the organisers' ruling, send me a PM, IM, or e-mail and I'll look into it and act as mediator to see what changes (if any) need to be implemented. Don't expect overnight results. There will probably be many private discussions between the affected/aggrieved parties before we approach the community with any proposed changes.

The issue involving the Steam Giveaway group and dampi256 has escalated beyond step 1, so if anyone who has been removed from the group feels it was unfair, please drop me a PM.

It isn't as [-]much fun[/-] satisfying at the time as having a big ol' throwdown on the forum, but that way I also know you're serious and not just looking to sow discord in the community.

Huge argument for such a simple event. All they're asking him to do is post more in the rest of the forum to get re-invited. Seems simple enough.

Here have a brownie :p

Holy crap! I did NOT expect this reaction! :wtf:

That brownie does not remove this sour taste from my mouth...

If you didn't agree with the rules, why didn't you speak up when they were made? When I wrote them I specifically asked for feedback. Everyone said they were fine. Now that we try to apply the rules, one person is a making a fuss about it (not even the person affected by it), and apparently tearing the community apart and undoing everything we tried to achieve.

I guess then based on the rules, then I should be kicked out as well? Fine to have rules (which I have no issues with), consistent application is key to being fair. Being a member of the Steam group doesn't really add or detract from the MyGaming community which is a really great community to be part of - IMHO ;)

So lets see if I understand this...

1. A thread was started for the sole purpose of deciding whether someone gets to stay on the preverbial island?
2. An entire 5 pages of wasted energy was dedicated to this?
3. Rules were made, why did this go any further than that?

From the sporadic reading I have done here, it seems ppl are throwing this all important steam group codex around and are huffing and puffing over this guy breaking the rules. From what Iv read he has given back to that same group, so surely that has earned some reprieve over not "posting".

If I joined the group, made no effort and didn't give back then yes boot me. Cause in all fairness I joined for some quick easy freebies. the sheer fact that he has at least given back makes in fine in my books.

Keep it simple people, amend the rules. If you donate at least 1 game a month or 1:5 every games u won, then you can stay (assuming u don't post in the specified threads).

I sometimes forget that the interwebs is serioz buzzinezz.

Almost, but not entirely.

The person was kicked from the group. The decision was then queried, and this poll was setup to see whether the majority agree with the decision to kick out said person or not. As it stands more than 50% disagree with the decision to kick said person.

But again do u not see the absurdity of this thread? This steam groups sounds like it sits up there with the Illuminati!

My issue is people are hanging up on the details of a rule. Surely contributing to the community should be mature enough to include things outside something as puny as a post count?
From an external point of view, this is looking like more of a case of bum burn ie "jealously" over the fact that he has won lots of games and the loophole that people are using is something as trivial as a post count.

But Dampi didn't disagree with the decision. In fact, from the tone I got reading his message, he expected it to happen, and prefers spending time on other forums anyway, which was why he didn't post here often. You're painting him as a victim, but he's come off best. Even from his own words, he doesn't think that he's been mistreated. Dampi, one of 'us', but from his own words, he doesn't even want to me one of 'us', because he prefers other forums.

So why did you go all social justice warrior when he didn't ask anyway to fight for him, and wasn't even angry at the decision to kick him. You created a bigger rift in the community than kicking anyone would have. If he had been upset, then I could understand doing this. But he wasn't and because of that, I can't support this thread.

inb4: it was all Eugene's fault... :p

Completely agree Imp...

This whole thread and the steam community thread is 1 big joke and was handled incredibly poorly wow.

This whole thing reminds me of a sense of entitlement and ownership that ppl are having towards this community (or that thread) and have taken this so personally that its actually concerning. I understand that ppl have contributed too many threads, a lot of their personal time and energy, but they need to reread this entire escapade and tell me this isn't a fat joke. Think of it from this point of view, if u happen to come across this site (say using google search) and u read this thread for the 1st time. What would ur perception be of this community?

Exactly right. ;) What annoys me even more is that this was pulled right when there was starting to be some activity on the forum for once. My posts, and others were actually getting quoted often, and people were having discussions throughout the forums. It wasn't completely dead like it's been for a long time. After this, I think a lot of that momentum is going to be gone.

This thread shouldn't have been started. Wyzak could've pm'd Dampi and Eugene/whoever, instead well...

Ironically, there's going to be a bigger sense of elitism or cliques or whatever you want to call it. People are upset, so they're going to, obviously, only engage with those that they like now.

MyGaming is not a Democracy

:p

It's those communist Elites, I tell you :p

Agh people make mistakes and often times its a lot easier to just shoot from the hip and say things online. End of the day, like I say to all the ragers out there "Its just a game" and this is just a forum. Stuff like this wont stop me visiting or posting and any1 with any sense of maturity will also be back and dare I say contributing. Lol for fun ppl should start there threads with the word contribute or any form of the word and attempt to use it as many times as possible in a single thread.

Look at the end we kiss, we hug, we share an ale and we move on. Last I checked we were all adults.

You sure about that? :p

Hopefully that is the case. ;) I'm still relatively new here, so I don't know how often this happens. Not a lot I hope. :D

Well its the 1st time iv ever seen something like this. Well at the end of it all, it made for an interesting read. Nothing like a forum soap opera once in a while.

This thread should just be closed up :/ Thought everything was resolved last night!
