Should I get a Blackberry 9800 Torch?

I currently have a Nokia N97. Using 8ta prepaid. I've had the Nokia N98 for 1.5 years.

I really like the BlackBerry 9800 Torch. Not sure if its worth getting the BB or even a BB at all technically. For the sake of BBM and such.

-- Detailed section of post.

Don't know what to do. Currently spend R99 a month on airtime with 8ta. With incoming calls I receive around 40 minutes per month per second billing credit which cover my quick calls during the month.

I send a huge amount of text messages/mms messages. 5 sent 50 free really works in my favour. I like that the 50 apply to both sms and mms.

Data side I tend to use about 10MB - 20MB. (Mxit/FB Mobile)

Blackberry advantage I guess is no longer needing to send text messages.

I need motivation

IIRC you need to pay extra to have the added bonus of the Blackberry network, and if you can't afford that then having a blackberry is well, useless. If I were you I'd do some research, see if there's not some contract that you could take out (If contracts are your thing) However if you can't take out a contract I'm not so sure if you could get the blackberry network, I'll get back to you on that.

If however you can't get a contract then having it, is as I said. Useless.

So it gets down to, if you can afford it yes, seeing as how having a semi-uncapped phone is imba. If not, don't bother with a BB at all.

Was looking at contract. Including BIS.

If that's the case, I'd say go for it, you /might/ spend some more money for the BIS, (Best in slot :D? soz wow moment) But once you realise "holy shit semi-uncapped" you go bonkers and just do everything on your BB, and seeing as how every grandmother and their 19 cats, have a BB, interacting with other people will also cost you ALOT less.

Unless you really need it for BB your mates, and want it for business, email etc, I would say no.

The BB is one boring piece of plastic.

Rather try get a iPhone. Now that is fun.

Even the 9800 Torch?

Yip even the Torch. Its still a BB. Boring.

If you need it for BB messenger and email great, otherwise get a iPhone which is epic fun and get Whatsapp which allows you to message all BB users exactly the same way as BB messenger works.

If I dont go Torch just yet... then maybe stick with N97 bit longer. WhatsApp works on there as well. :)

My uncle has he 9800 - went to it from an iPhone he had before. I thought it was pretty cool.

IN the end.. paying R99 per month on 8ta prepaid with N97 vs ~R400 with not even the same amount of airtime/talk time etc maybe isnt a good idea. :P

Not yet at-least anyways.

Well, I own a BB. Love it.

BB vs iPhone is a similar squabble than PS3 vs XBOX.

But what I see happening is a lot of iPhone people switching to BB. Similar to a lot of XBOX's being traded for PS3....

o hai guys

If you have lots of friends with BB's, and they are the ones that you spend all your money on to sms, then it's worth it to get the BBM, otherwise, what's the point really?

Or you could download something like WhatsApp for your Nokia (assuming is supports it), and chat with that. Just remember that you'll be spending a bit on data, but if you want to IM a lot instead of SMSing, then it'll be cheaper

Love my Blackberry Torch! Doesn't have as many apps as the Iphone or Android phones but then again you get BBM, free internet, great touch screen, and a qwerty keyboard... Do the right thing, get a blackberry ;)

No.

To expand, Android is better, you can get a QWERTY keyboard if you wish, the app support is much better. If you are so inclined, you can easily install custom ROMs to tailor it to what you need.
iPhone, no. Not now at least, wait a month or two for the 5. Should fix the idiotic aerial problem and you will still have to contend with POS that is itunes.
Or get a WinPhone 7, but that will only be as good as the rest in September.

heard guys are downloading movies & series on their blackberries through their browser... this true? Though BB would have some cap to prevent abuse...
