My system: i76700, 16g ram, msi 1060 6gb oc, 24 inch lg wide ips monitor, ssd drives. I am gaming occasionally and mainly do FPS and racing /driving games. I want to replace my gpu with a 1080 ti Gaming x card from msi, is it worth it? At the moment I am only playing 1080 p.
Thanks Guys

I'm assuming you have the non-K version of the 6700? It might bottleneck the 1080ti but you will always have a bottleneck somewhere. The 6700 shouldn't bottleneck the 1080ti in any way that really matters.

I'd say don't upgrade though, the GTX1060 6GB is plenty fast and more than enough for 1080p at the moment. Save your money for now and upgrade later, or do something else with it.

If you have the money and you really don't care, who am I to stop you from buying a 1080ti. However, to answer your question; should you upgrade? Nope.

There will be no real bottleneck no.

If you have to ask yourself the questions of "should I upgrade"
The answer is always yes!!

I am very happy with my 1080ti. Upgraded from 1080, but my reasons were different. I got a feeling that the 1080ti will come in at +- same price that the 1080 came in with and the 1080 value would drop like a rock. So sold my 1080 before that happened and kept the money for +- a month sitting without a GPU and bought the ti

I am planning to get a 1440p 144hz monitor in the future, and my 1060 won't do me any good then.

then the way i see it. buy later and see maybe the amd vega cards are very good and then make upgrade then. It can also make the nvidea cards cheaper.

OR can realise Zuma can open is mouth and say the wrong thing and then we at 14 to 15 rand to dollar and then does not matter if the international prise is less Rand price will be up. SO the question is more what is more likly to happen.

PS its just my opion on the 2 possible extremes that can happen in next few months.

I agree with you Weasley, it can go both ways. Nvidia vs. Amd.........some like a Merc, some prefer a BMW. The other side of the debate is if I buy the card now there is no money to waste..:wtf:

Depends on what you want to achieve , I would say give the 1070 some thought as well, especially if you are going to stick to 1080p.
resolutions.

nah postpone it I say.

Unless you're swimming in cash the best strategy is to upgrade when you have to & no earlier.

Definitely the most honest answer.

"I am gaming occasionally" Then getting a 1080ti for 1080p is ridiculous unless you have a 144/200hz monitor, even then a GTX1070 would be a better buy. I'd rather wait till I have a 1440p/hz+ monitor before buying a behemoth. You will always be behind in computing since it is for ever changing.

I would wait and see how VEGA performs and what Nvidia will do with regards to pricing... They might even announce the GTX1100 series!? Just like they did the 1080ti and Titan Xp.
