Should you pre-order games?

Personally it's a case by case basis. New games are getting more and more expensive so making a mistake and pre ordering a game that disappoints becomes all the more painful. I tend to wait a bit on games that are predominantly single player as there really isn't a rush but a multi player game is always nice to get on release as you go through the learning curve at the same time as everyone else. Trying to play a multi player game where everyone else has all the unlocks and knows the terrain tends to see you getting your ass handed to you.

It depends on the game and the package, If you save money, usually the case of pre-orders, and if you get something extra because of the pre-order it is worth it. I don't mean in game content because that is a little stupid, like getting an extra weapon, whoop whoop that you play with once or twice.

I normally pre-order if there is a really good incentive, like with GoW: Judgement, you get a steel case, download token for GoW 1 and 800ms points.

I very rarely pre-order, unless I get a really spectacular deal (XCOM enemy unknown + dlc + Civ 5 + ...) or 4 for the price of 3 or I've played the beta (TL2) and I'm really really impressed. If it has always-online drm I will definitely not pre-order it, I will probably not buy it at all unless it's an MMO where I can live with it.

So, hearing all this news of the pre-order stuff of Deus Ex, I've decided to lock in and confirm my pre-order for the game. TB and JS, they make good points, but I just couldn't give a damn.

looks nice but i don't pre-order any games. i will just have to wait and be patient :)

Same here. pre -Order is just about the hype!!! Also not a fan of pre ordering games, unless I fall into the Hype Trap

I dont mind pre-ordering, but from a very select few companies. But this special-specialist-elite-mega-directors-cut crap is pissing me off. Give me the proper game, add the option of toys and what not for special eds, but dont fuck around with the gameplay and just getting the game.
Its like that idiotic Watch Dogs special editions, there were so many...

Which brain dead PR/marketing dept dreamt up this crap?

Be sure to check the weather before pre ordering you never know when a flash flood can spring up and destroy roads thus preventing delivery.

Shutting Down Augment Your Pre-Order
2015-10-01 12:53:50

At both Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal, we’ve been listening to everything you’ve had to say about the Augment Your Pre-Order program. When it was first conceived, we wanted the program to give you more choice about what you received in terms of pre-order incentives - because we've seen in the past that when we choose those packages ourselves, and split them across regions, it has caused frustration. We quickly noticed that this approach created even more frustration than before, resulting in a resounding amount of negative feedback.

We’ve spent a lot of time reading through all of your comments, working to understand how we can try to make things right for you. After much thought and reflection, we decided to close down the program and make all of the incentive content available to anyone who pre-orders Deus Ex: Mankind Divided or purchases a Day 1 edition of the game. Additionally, the release date will no longer be changed in accordance with pre-order numbers, and everyone will gain access to the game on February 23rd, 2016.

Your feedback and input is of the utmost importance to us-- as it’s your loyalty and passion for our franchises that gives us the opportunity to continue providing you with great gaming experiences.

To our faithful fans who’ve already pre-ordered: we will be taking care of everything necessary to ensure that all of the changes to the program will be automatically applied to your purchase. Meanwhile, we'd like to thank everybody for their feedback - we know this wouldn't have happened with a game that nobody cared about, and we're just focusing now on delivering a game that lives up to your hopes and expectations.

Thanks for your support!

I Agree with holding back on pre-ordering however if it is part of a franchise i know and love like FIFA, Assassins Creed, Forza, Fallout, i will pre-order then. Just for the pure fact that i know its going to be a great game and I will want it. New to the market games i stay FAR away from pre-ordering. I have thought about pre-ordering Starwars Battlefront but I think ill wait and be patient. I feel sorry for the Tony Hawk fans out there, that game seems to be a mess!
