Mr. Nice Guy
ShowMax is a South African Netflix competitor by Naspers that only costs R99 per month. Our resident Jan is an expert on it and if it wasn't for him then I wouldn't even have known about it to be honest.

It looks freaken amazing!

I wish DSTV had a sport only package. Then I would have taken that plus ShowMax.

Interesting thing: I can't connect to their website on my home network. It says Showmax is not available in my country yet. I don't have any DNS settings even set up on my network - I have it down to device level. Ah well, guess my Netflix sub isn't in danger of being cancelled. :p

My wife had the same problem when she tried to look at it at home. What connection do you have? We have BitCo at home.

Oh yeah! I must still add you to my ignore list. :p Lucky bliksem.

Hahaha. It's not always what it's cracked up to be, in all honesty. I have a 10Mbps package, 300GB unshaped data. I had to sign a 2 year contract due to the package being "special" at a slightly reduced rate. I all honesty, their usage monitoring is shot, because I easily use 500GB per month and they claim I never use more than 10% of that amount.

Maybe if I had a faster line it would feel more impressive...

Ah if it's only 10Mbps then I'm not that jealous anymore. Can't they give you a faster speed? I suppose 10 Mbps is enough but one would expect more with fibre. You are however lucky with the usage monitoring!

Well, I might consider upgrading to 20Mbps soon and, if funds allow it, I might even look at the 40Mbps package. Currently, 10Mbps pretty much suits my needs - I stream Netflix, Hulu and Youtube in 1080p and download modern Steam games in just a couple of hours (averaging 1.2MB/s download speed).

Showmax does look interesting. The wife is especially interested in the older Afrikaans shows, so I'll be trying out the trial when the two of us have more time to actually try it out. Can someone comment on the minimum linespeed you need to stream? How does buffering work? Will 2Mbps suffice?

Showmax is looking like real good value. There is an absolute ton of series and movies available, and the price of R99 pm is not bad for the value you are getting. They really do have a winner on their hands.

Seeing as the service just started, I hope they expand the connectivity to include things like the Xbox One.

Im 50/50 it seems like great value .
Content is important that is key and devices more more more .I already stream currently from various other places so this has to be something special to take my money .

I had a look last night and it seems to be working now. Tempted to sign up for the trial and give it a whirl this weekend, seems like good value.

I am tempted to try out the free trial, I am interested in this now after spending some time looking at it.
