Silent Hill Homecoming

It sucks that the Silent Hill games have gone so backwards. I enjoyed the first two games and the third one wasn't too bad. I'll probably still play Homecoming because of the second game that was just amazing.

This is an amazing game..I love it!!
Yes its not as scary as the older one's but it still has an epic story and its alot of fun..not to mention the bad ass bosses!! Mmmm thinking of scarlett now!!
 
Yes, I was harsh, but I think I justified why.

It really is a pity that it ended up feeling like a tired expansion pack rather that a completely fresh game. There were some notable moments that kept me playing longer than I probably should have, but there's just no way you can milk the Silent Hill formula this long without making any groundbreaking new changes.

I think maybe your focus was on the silent hill's of old.
This was a new game and maybe you should play it again without thinking of any of the previous games!! Its like the new Resident Evil, its an epic game but its completely different to any of the previous titles.
You shouldn't compare old titles with new titles.
 
I agree with Joker. I haven't finished it yet, but I thought it was great so far. This coming from a Silent Hill veteran. Soon as I finish dead space I'm starting it from the begining on easy this time.
 
This was quite far from being a 'new' game. The reason I drew comparisons to the old ones was because it pretty much IS the old ones. However, it tried too hard to follow the formula that made the first few games successful and failed at doing so.

As a good example, look at the screenshots of Homecoming compared to SH or SH2: apart from the textures and jaggies, they might as well be the same game.

I suppose if you're new to gaming (not targeted at you, Joker) then you may get more of a kick out of it, but even when trying to be objective I still couldn't find one single original idea in either the execution or story to make it a worthwhile experience.
 
The problem with this Silent Hill is Konami outsourced it to an American company and we know that most of the time Americans lack in the creativity department. The game is easier than all the others cause this guy is some combat veteran whereas all the other main characters were average joe's.
The only thing good here is probably the soundtrack cause that at least is the original composer, Akira Yamaoka. Silent Hill 2 remains the best, I agree with the puppet. 3 was good cause it was canonical to the first one but for puzzles and Psychological Survival Horror Silent Hill 2 is the one to beat.

The thing is I liked it because with echoed Silent Hill 2 so much. I pretty much loathed SH4 and it was the most different of the bunch. It was called Silent Hill yet you never ever go there. I was worried when they handed development reigns over to Double Helix, but I was pleasantly suprised at what a good experience they were able to create. Like I said, I didn't finish it yet and I'll be able to form a proper opinion once I do.

The problem I have is it echoes Silent Hill 2 but it falls far short of it.
As far as the room goes, that game wasnt even suppose to be a silent hill, they just tacked the name on during development.
In the end each to his own, I just think this is a VERY weak translation of what next-gen Silent Hill should be like

Remember, a review is still just one person's opinion.

Having said that, it seems like RustPuppet got this one right as the user score is sitting quite close to his score.

I disagree. This is EXACTLY what game reviews is about, drawing experience from any previous titles and doing comparisons.
It must be made clear if the new game is more of the same game, or completely new, not to be compared, etc.
It's the same as the F.E.A.R 2 review, i.e. more of the same. Yet no one really disagreed with it, since everyone is in agreement it is not as good as F.E.A.R 1.

Maybe you are just too much of a Silent Hill fanboi to accept a negative review, i.e. someone's opinion? ;)

1st things 1st...Im not a god damn fan boi, now that ive got that out of my system i'll continue:D

It is his opinion but he was way to harsh. Scoring it 49%????
People tha havn't played silent hill homecoming yet will be put off by that review.

I have nothing against old rust puppet, he is an excellent debating partner..lol ..:D

If I was a fanboy I'd have loved SH4 just cuz it was called Silent Hill. No, I hated that game. Not saying I was called a fanboy but I played 'em all so I suspect I can make a reasonable unbiased judgment. My opinion, overly critical review and score.
