It's not a huge surprise, but it's still kinda sad. Guilermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills has been cancelled by publisher Konami. It's official.

Konami's message on the subject was short, to the point, and weirdly careful not to mention Kojima - who is soon to leave the publisher under mysterious circumstances.

"Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles," reads the statement, "however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued."

The statement continued: "In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements."

So our guess this morning was on the nose. More Silent Hill games are coming, but Silent Hills - so well teased in the PSN "demo" P.T - is no more. Bleh.

I'm officially depressed. This game was sure to be a big hit after the success of P.T. and I was so happy that Silent Hill seemed like something to be excited about again. I just can't fathom that Konami's egos could be so big that they couldn't sort something out with Kojima.

For anyone that hasn't gotten around to experiencing the best videogame announcement of all time (in my opinion), Konami will be removing P.T. from PSN come 29 April - so best get to it.

well if kojima has the necessary funds available he can technically still complete the game, he just wont be able to call it silent hills (eg. scary town perhaps), thats what happened to sleeping dogs, initially it was known as true crime 3: hong kong, activision dumped the game, United Front Games continued working on it, square enix picked it up, it became sleeping dogs,

Since there was no actual gameplay footage, I'm not sure if I'm sad or surprised. P.T. was also apparently not indicative of the product that would have been Silent Hills.
