Skyrim to be ported to PC, aiming to appeal to casual gamers (E3)

Ed - James: Luckily PC gamers have mods, something that rescued Oblivion from consoletardation as well.

:D

And yet, not all the mods in the world stopped me from binning that worthless game.

I hope Skyrim proves to be a good game but with Bethesda behind the wheel and "consoletardation" (love that word, thanks, James!) confirmed I don't see this one winning me over.

I think Tooken will enjoy this article :)

Bleak!!

Wow, this totally changes my views on this game and I was actually looking forward to it. I guess I'll wait a few weeks after release and check out how many problems the other guys are having first.

This is really bleak news.

"We still have the complexity behind the scenes, but we wanted to make it so that you could pick up the controller and play and it was easy

In other words, "We've automated the entire process from the moment you hit the 'Play' button. The player has been relieved of all the trouble, hassle and effort of actually having to engage in the world. It's basically an interactive movie! Enjoy, folks!"

Bwhaahahahaha :D

I love Bethesda

You just astounded me. Unless you like it being automated?

No, no. I was just dealing with the ridiculous simplification of an already overly-simplified series with sarcasm. That's just how I roll.

At least not getting this one-dimensional piece of tripe has saved me a few hundred bucks.

The game still has a lot going for it. New engine, supposedly improved animations and AI, better combat system (I reckon this is one area that could definitely benefit from some flashy console style combat influence to liven it up).

I have faith that the PC modding community will sculpt the raw material of Skyrim into a work of art in the long run. The only reason I still keep Oblivion around is because of the fantastic mods that altered and improved most elements of the game.

And who knows, maybe vanilla flavour will be awesome anyway.

Thing is, console games need not be "dumbed down". I think it is the massive jump in popularity in gaming that is creating this lowest common denominator type of gaming (easy games) so rampant. I honestly do not think the consoles are to blame, rather the state of the industry.

The casual gamer ? lol ?

/sigh

apart from witcher and demon souls I guess we will never see the light of day again where gaming is challenging over being mass marketed and achievement-peened :(

/sigh
I was thinking about this when in the gameplay video he was going on about the controls, "how will this port to PC?" companies are such sell outs, and then there is valve takes 8 years to release a sequel :(

Swak, that's just taken my excitement down like 9 out of 10 notches :( I really hope the usual modders come to the party soon after launch *holds thumbs*

Copy-pasta from my comment on the article:

Hmmmm, so "porting to pc is usually not so bad actually"? Strange, all the friggen terrible console-to-pc ports would seem to make that a lie, or at best a creative piece of BS.

And incidentally, how can a game with 300+ hours worth of content appeal to "casual gamers"? The casual gamers will likely get bored 40 hours in and put the game down and never pick it up again. I suspect the marketing guys had too much influence of the devs, so they were all like, "well fuck it, lets just throw all this shit together and hope the hype pulls us through"

This shit really makes me grind my teeth at the publishers and marketers. Fuck off and let the developers make a proper game. If the game is good (and the devs, given free rein, could make it epic), it will sell ridiculously well. If the game is hyped, it will also sell initially, but people will wise up pretty fucking fast and bin it...

How can one simple article completely wrench all enthusiasm out of my soul this game...

This looks SO damn good up till now, then this bomb drops...USELESS. I completely agree that since this game is designed with...what?..over 300 game hours in mind or some such that ANY non hardcore rpg fan would have put it down LONG before that mark and move on to the next thing.

Why oh why for he love of the seven deities are devs these days moving away from heavy stat based RPG titles!

...

Agreed!!! But casual gamer won't even play for 40 hours. Casual players play Angry Birds for about an hour then gets fed up because they can't carry on.
RPG is RPG
WHY Bethesda WHY!!!!

Should be interesting to see what happens when the game is released and will it suffer from 'consolitis' on the PC.

*sigh* Is this what it's all coming down to? Dumbing everything down to appeal to the masses? This certainly changes my view of the game dramatically. Will take a wait and see approach from here on in...

Meh, haters gon' hate. I'm going to love this, even more than I loved Oblivion (which I loved slightly less than Morrowind). Videos and news so far have given me more reason to jizz rather than shit in my pants.

I absolutely love how people were 'ooh' and 'ah'ing' over the gameplay video from last week, and now that this news arrives they suddenly hate even the gameplay video. You guys really need to learn to let go of the old days. Baldur's Gate 2 isn't coming back, just face it.
