Skyrim to be ported to PC, aiming to appeal to casual gamers (E3)

Meh, haters gon' hate. I'm going to love this, even more than I loved Oblivion (which I loved slightly less than Morrowind). Videos and news so far have given me more reason to jizz rather than shit in my pants.

I absolutely love how people were 'ooh' and 'ah'ing' over the gameplay video from last week, and now that this news arrives they suddenly hate even the gameplay video. You guys really need to learn to let go of the old days. Baldur's Gate 2 isn't coming back, just face it.

It's all well and great to ooh and aah over how nice it all looks, but there still needs to be an RPG under there after the shine wears off...

And there will be. :? As far as I know, all the old news we got on the gameplay and everything released since the initial reveal still hasn't changed. People were lapping up the news, going on and on about what an excellent RPG it's going to be, then they hear it's being ported from console, and all that is forgotten and the game is just going to suck on principle. From what I've heard so far, the game is going to be Morrowind just better. I don't really mind, actually, the people can whine and bitch and moan about the game all they like, I'll be enjoying mah RPG on 11.11.11, whether they like the game or not.

My concern isn't so much the porting, but the appealing to the "masses" aka "idiots with short attention spans"... :/

Graal they not bitching about it being ported to PC from console, they bitching about it being dumbed down for casual gamers

But from what we've heard so far, it's not being dumbed down. The combat and everything else sounds pretty solid, to be honest. It's merely being developed in a way that doesn't scare of the casual gamers, who make up the majority of people who want to play the game.

And that's why I think I'll skip this one and rather just play Peggle.

Oh, you're right. Maybe they should market it solely at the so-called 'hardcore' RPG gamers. It's not like they really need to make a big profit to be able to develop their next game.

I'm not going to skip this game, as yet anyway. It still looks good and as long as it has good exploration and adventure with interesting quests I wont mind a toned down RPG backend too much. :)

Thank the gods for mods!! I was going to get it for the PC just because I wanted the full on experience, not a dumbed down experience. Now I here this :(...

I'm not too worried though. Look at Civ V, that game was so dumbed down it was not a nice experience. Then came the hardcore fans and their mods, now it's a fantastic game! I expect the same to happen to Skyrim...

The way I see it, with most Elder Scrolls games, you don't buy the game. You buy modding tools with a game to be modded conveniently attached.

wut?
I doubt there is "a vast majority" of causal gamers who want to play it, the real majority have probably played at least the last 2 elder scrolls games and fans of the series, its like taking Star Wars and adding sparkly gay vampires to make it appeal to the masses, you just don't do that shit. if people want casual there is casual, why does it have to infest the good games? I find increasingly with new games I can only play them for about 2 hour then I board, what happened to spending a whole and (and even night) playing a game? but now we have to compromise for idiots with more money then sense, fuck that shit, I'm off to play minecraft which thankfully requires just a bit too much thinking for casual gamers to ruin.

Well-designed and enthralling experience? Loyal fanbase, guaranteed sales and cult-classic stardom.

Casual rewrite? Bye-bye fanbase and hello generic and inevitably forgotten tripe no-one really cares about.
