If you like getting bang for your buck,
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
will give you a nuclear blast. You’ll never have to stop questing in the upcoming open-world role-playing game, to be released November 11 for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3. Skyrim director Todd Howard told Wired.com in a phone interview Monday that the game will feature a never-ending stream of procedurally generated content, giving players an infinite number of things to do.“The vibe of the game is that it’s something that you can play forever,” Howard said. The game’s Radiant quest system randomly generates new tasks based on your progress in the game. An innkeeper might ask you to hunt for bandits in a place you haven’t found yet, or an aspiring alchemist could request that you collect 10 undiscovered flowers for his work. Howard claims that the options are endless. In addition to these minor tasks, Howard says you’ll be able to do extra work for each of the game’s factions, like the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. Once you complete the scripted quest lines for each group, you can go to their respective hubs and pick up randomly generated missions to steal gems or assassinate shopkeepers across Skyrim’s massive world.Though some players might not love the idea of endlessly collecting groups of random ingredients, Howard says that Radiant quests play into one of the game’s major strengths: environmental storytelling.Skyrim’s world is sprinkled with secrets and minor bits of narrative that you’ll have to piece together as you explore, an aspect of game design that Howard says the team picked up while working on their last game, Fallout 3.“With Fallout, it’s not as beautiful a world to everybody,” he said. “We had to find ways to make exploration of [a destroyed wasteland] interesting.”For Skyrim, Howard says that Bethesda has learned a few new tricks and gotten better at the old ones. The most enjoyable part of the Radiant system won’t be completing quests, he says, it’ll be the things you discover along the way: bandit-infested fortresses, or a terrifying lighthouse.“The world is probably the one thing that sets [Skyrim] apart from other games,” he said. “It feels really real for what it is … It’s just fun to explore.”
Wired.com’s full review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I am really curious to see how this plays out. While and endless number of fetch quests might not sound great having something that keeps you busy, especially for the factions, sounds great. I loved the Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion and felt a little sad when it was done.

If this works the way its suppose to this is going to be one Frakking EPIC game.

I read that earlier. I can't contain my excitement for this game. I'll probably need a change of pants when my copy arrives on Friday...

Same here. Its going to be a long and torturous Friday until i get home, spend some time with the Mrs and finally get to play.

I'm in Matric finals and not writing on Friday so I'll be sitting in front of my door waiting for the package a la Scott Pilgrim vs The World. :D

I think having the choice of doing all these sidequests being there is a good thing. You're not forced to do any of the quests and it doesn't feel like you're being forced into just following the main storyline. I hope more RPGs adopt a system like this.

Agreed, choice is always key and if these side quests help you explore the world, one of the most fun things to do in any TES game, all the better.

You guys are so silly. If you order courier to your door, you're lucky if it arrives before 2PM. If you order to Post Office Counter, it arrives before 11am. I picked up my Sata cables from TakeAlot at 9:30 this morning.

Have to sacrifice some great games from my collection to get this, but this will be worth it. I'm off on Friday so I'm going to fetch my copy at 8:00 or 9:00 and play for as much of the day as I can. Can't wait! :D

I am still wickedly temped by the CE but it's that or a new tv....

Oh and I hate u guy who are off on Friday.

Damnit!! I might be sitting in an exam when my copy is delivered, and there will probably be no one home!! Guess I am leaving the exam early :)... probably not but I want to!!

I have never bought a game on release day for full price. R500 seems just to much but this will definitely be worth it.

infinite quests will get boring after a while, lets hope the moding tools are powerful

Did u read the article? It clearly stayed that these procedurally generated quests will take u to places u HAVEN'T yet explored. So as long as the world holds even a few secrets there will be reason to keep playing.
