So here is a quick guide to help with the Smackdown VS Raw (SVR) games.

Since the fighting mechanic in most are almost identical, this will help you rise through the ranks to the the ever-elusive gold.

I will be adding to this guide in the coming weeks, so at present, it is a work in progress.

1. Customise your hero

1.1 Getting started:
You basically have two options here. A) create your own superstar, or B) modify an existing one. I will get to the reasons for the create or modify comment soon. Stay away from creating diva's for the purpose of fighting though. In later renditions of the game their match types, and the ones females are allowed to participate in are severely limited. But to create a hottie accompany your pixel-hero to the ring is still cool, if that's your bag.

Creating your own superstar or modify an existing one can be a painstakingly long process for newcomers as this guide will outline where to pay extra attention to build an all-round cerebral assassin.

So here we go.

1.2 Create a Superstar:Basic Move Set
So you want to create a fighter that is well-rounded. What the guy looks like doesnt really matter, but what does matter is the move-set you assign to the guy. SVR has a very deep move-assign section, but you cannot just go about assigning trash. Your fighter may then end up being very powerful but lack submission moves to wear you opponent down.

When going about selecting moves for your fighter, think about combining styles akin to, for instance, Stone Cold and Bret Hart. You want to end up with a character that is balanced between pure aggression, and some effective submission type moves. Setting your movesets this way will afford you the opportunity to attack your opponent in a variety of ways, and winning matches in a variety of ways. Remember, pinning your opponent may not always be an option.

Remember that grapple moves can be further broken down into throw, impact and submission moves. Each of them work well in certain scenarios. So assigning some of each is a good place to start.

With it's variety of moves, controlling them can become a bit of a chore to remember what does what. So assign certain types of moves to certain buttons and directional inputs. For instance, set up your moves so that a grapple in conjunction with "left" will always unleash a suplex/slam attack, where "right" will always prompt a submission attack. This way you can come to grips with what happens when, and remember moves easily.

Setting up your basic move list can be a long and daunting task since the game is so deep in this area. But be patient and you will reap the rewards.

The same steps can be followed to change an existing's superstar's moveset if you find it too limiting.

1.3 Signatures and Finishers
You can assign two signatures and two finishers to your character. Now, your window to perform a signature or finisher in most cases are small, especially when faced with a tough opponent.

Performing your signature will lead to an opportunity to unleash your finisher.

For both your Sinatures and Finishers, try to select moves that work in both your opponent's logical fighting positions, being while theyre standing up, or on the mat after being beat down. So select a signature for a situation where your opponent could be in a standing position and another for when they are lying on the mat. So now you can unleash it in both situations. Follow similar selections for your finishers.
