So I'm ill and no one wants to help me..lol

The Joker

Thread Killer MKII
As some of you guys know, I have been pretty sick for the last 4 months.
I've seen 7 doctors in total and 3 specialists, I've spent 3 nights in the Emergency room and almost 3 weeks in hospital. They have done a huge amount of tests on me and found a couple of not so serious issues but the main problem is still not sorted.

The pain comes and goes on a daily basis, sometimes its bare-able and other times I have to take pain medication.
Its messing with my personal life and my business and it just feels like I am getting no where with the doctors.

I have every test you can think of, the only thing remaining is exploratory surgery, which I am now considering.

It honestly feels like the doctors are just not paying attention. Treating the symptoms and not the problem.

Eh I just felt like ranting a bit :( lol

Damn dude, hope you get better. The doctors in SA private hospitals are usually pretty good. Maybe consider going for a check up overseas, it will cost a fortune, but compare it to the exploratory surgery expenses and decide if its worth it.

Sorry to hear that, my Step Dad was diagnosed with with flu when he actually had lung cancer, so I know how frustrating it can be.

Sounds a bit silly perhaps google your symptoms? It seems you at the end of your rope, I would do anything to at least get some relief.

Hells, man, that's horrible. You're in my thoughts!

Finding a doctor that simply gives a shit can make a massive difference in a person's recovery and well-being, and it royally pisses me off that some doctors simply don't make the effort. Do you at least have any possible diagnoses? And, if you don't mind sharing in a public forum, what other symptoms do you have?

I'm thinking of you, Joker!

Mind if I ask what the problem is, exactly?

If it's pain without any obvious cause then it sounds a lot like neuralgia. Have they checked you for diabetes, in which case there's a possibility that it could be diabetic neuropathy, but I'm pretty sure doctors would've checked you for that.

Unfortunately chronic pain without any obvious cause is something many people live with. I know of a few people who suffer with it (granted, these are people past their forties) and the general consensus is that the best "management" for it is, love it or hate it, marijuana.

Either way, I hope you'll feel better soon and that the doctors will be able to help you. Pain is (as the word itself implies) an awful, awful thing to experience, especially constantly.

Swak man, sorry to hear :/

Dunno if it's possible but if it is, try make it down to St Augustines here in Durban ....... top notch private hospital. Very expensive but the doctors really are on top of their game dude.

Grim to hear, sire. Really hope that they get to the source of the symptoms ASAP. No shortage of doctor recommendations here, which is good.

My missus works for one of the best Cardio Specialists in Joburg. As I am sure that you have checked all bases, all I'm going to say is that she/he could recommend good doctors who don't give up, if you need any referrals. The doc is well connected, which may or may not help.

Really hope you get a break through soon. ;)

Thanx Guys I really appreciate it.

They have checked for neuropathy and I am not diabetic.

The symptoms list I have is quite long. I have severe upper left chest pain that comes and goes, abdominal pain that comes and goes, my lower back and legs hurt like crazy, I have a constant headache that ranges from bare-able to omg painful, 2 of the fingers on my left hand are going numb, I'll start sweating like crazy for nothing especially at night and I am in a air conditioned room, I am tired all the time although that could be because I struggle sleeping and because I'm worried. When pushing on the left and right side of my abdomen I get severe stabbing pains in my back for about 2 minutes after doing it.

What they did find was 2 small (4mm) Kidney stones but I was assured they were harmless, they also found a hernia that was also relatively small and didn't need operating on.

Some days I'm ok but other days it gets really bad.

Its really not a question of money, as my medical aid covers everything, just feels like they aren't doing enough to diagnose the problem. I was told it could be lymph node cancer, or a auto immune disease but still no solid proof.

Damn - wish I knew of a doctor whom I could recommend. Someone like House, who's brilliant and just won't give up. Too many doctors these days don't actually care about their patients. Hope you come right!
