So why doesn't PC ever get included in wars?

I buy all my PS3 games second hand. Got a lot of the latest games and R400 is the most I paid. New PC games are R400 so I don't see the problem. This isn't even an uncommon thing, just go to BT Games or ps3za and you can get whatever you want at a decent price.

Console games need not be that expensive if one can live with not having the very latest games as they are released and keep an eye out for bargains. I have seen some pretty decent prices for games over at evogames. Then again, one could always club together with a friend or friends who have the same console and buy games that way.

Ok, I think everyone has seen atleast a few console wars but I don't often see people say "the pc has much better graphics or controls than whichever console", I know pc prices varie and not everyone can afford them but if you can afford a console and expensive console games the pc shouldn't be much more. BTW, I have a console so I'm just wondering.

It's sorta like comparing LG to some TV brand like Hurling Willies. I'll defend pc gaming to the end. Not involved in the war, I like consoles, but I love pcs, they're my fucking passion.

You know why consoles can play all the games? 'Cause by default it runs on lowest specs and games made for consoles are toned down. They even did that with Oblivion so that they could make it work on XBox.

I don't get why everyone is up in arms about it, but yeah...pc is just a universal machine of packed awesome bad assness.

Simply put. A console cannot compete with the power of a mighty PC. But then look at the costs!

Agreed. the pc is allways the powerhouse, the technology pusher.
More than once, games had to be toned down, as mentioned with Oblivion above, just to run acceptable on the consoles. on the pc you get control over AA, higher detail textures (in lots of cases) or you can just download texture upgrade mods and stuff, on some games for wich the consoles do not support downloading.

For me personally I see consoles as a pick up and play device. Pick up the controller, load the disk, play for an hour or two then go braai or something, that's how I view them.

I have played on all platforms and enjoyed the lot. I don't have the patience to tweak drivers and hardware configurations on the PC any more. My Xbox is fired up when I get home and I can peacefully game immediately without hassles.

Well I can get home fire up my pc and play without doing any of the above mentioned stuff!!

Yeah but you need to download graphic driver updates, windows updates, game updates, anti-virus updates, media player updates, messenger updates etc. etc. Many a time after an update or a installation of a new program, one of my other programs started crashing. Plus theirs plenty of bugs to put up with on the PC. Meanwhile on the PS3 you just download the occasional Firmware update, which is usually quite helpful, and game updates and you good to go. No software worries or driver worries just insert disc and play. And most of all, no need to to format and reinstall windows when something goes wrong. I must say I play on both PC and PS3, but the PS3 is much more easy going and user friendly. That just covers a small portion of it.

lol... PC and PS3 is completely different, you cannot compare them. PS3 is a gaming console and a PC is a LOT more, so of course it will be a bit more complicated.
But... you are correct, it seems you have a huge number of problems on your pc and I will also not be happy camper if I also have to do all those stuff manually.

Virtually all the tasks you mentioned are automated on my PC. And I haven't reinstalled in years. The most I have on my PC is related to hardware failures, which can happen on a PS3 too.

You telling me you never had any problems with drivers? Cause everyone I know has had problems and I usually help sort it out. Anyway I was comparing them from a gaming perspective NOT everything else.

That's exactly why you cannot compare it. Have you read the thread?

The consoles is good for gaming, and only gaming and then also only for certain genres. It caters towards the newbie gamers.

The PC is good at everything, including gaming. It is more aimed at the more advanced technical people.

I very rarely have driver problems. You will have driver issues, since as you already pointed out, the pc is so much more, meaning it is also more complex. With complexity, an increase in the possibility of problems can be expected, especially for users that are not tech savvy. But that is not what this discussion is about.

Consoles and PCs cater for completely different markets - Consoles are more for people that just want to jump into gaming without too much fuss and techncial difficulty and the consoles also last a long time.
PCs are more for the tech savvy users that have their own personal setups and choices. It is highly customisable that way.

You cannot compare apples and oranges as you are now. The logic fails.

I know that the PC is more complex and all that jazz because I use one. I'm just saying that I personally prefer a console for gaming because as you said it's easier and theirs less hassles. Then theirs also games like Soul Caliber, LBP and many other that are exclusive to consoles. So when it comes to gaming I usually go for console unless it's an FPS like COD 4 or 2142.

Thank you. Was it so difficult to just agree from the get-go instead of coming to make a ruckus over here? :D

Wait....so I would have to spend R15000 on a gaming PC to get something like Far Cry 2 to run at the same resolution and with the same detail settings as it does on a console?

Darn! ;)

You might want to add the cost of buying a high definition display for said console to the R4500. I would guess that HD television sets are not all that commonplace as not many people in this country receive an HD television signal. Or am I wrong?
