So why doesn't PC ever get included in wars?

PC's have to be worth R15000 or so to compete with a console of R4500..

Different market?

Haha, that's actually pretty funny. A pc is more expensive, yes, but it's not like a R15000 pc is the same in gaming terms as a console. You've got much better graphics, more interactivity, plus you can do more than play just games.

Consoles automatically play their games on low settings.

So yeah, no comparison between a R15000 (overpriced, btw) pc and a R4500 console.

Would a R15k pc beat a console (no matter which) by far? (Sorry haven't owned a high end gaming pc yet)

I still prefer my PC for gaming - IMO you cant beat it for playing FPS and RTS.
I very rarely have to "tweak" my settings - LOL I'm pretty lazy so I always just use auto detect settings.
As for updates/drivers etc - all this talk of how much time it takes how difficult it is - I don't understand where this comes from. Its not like new drivers are released every couple of days and if you miss one your PC is going to break. They take a couple of minutes to download and install easy peasy.
The same goes for the talk about having to spend 1000's upgrading your hardware every 2nd month - its just not true - if you buy decent hardware in the first place.

I have to agree. Plus, I enjoy downloading drivers and new software, etc to improve performance on my PC. Drivers increase performance and the appearance of games almost every time a new one is released. And regarding the hardware, that's also true. I spend like R12k on each new PC and only buy a new one every two to three years, so it ain't that bad. But I do use my console every now and again nonetheless. eg. GTA IV. Wonderful on X360, stuffed on PC.

12k every 2-3years - LOL W. I see where these stories of PC gaming being expensive are coming from. The last time I spent money on PC hardware was Nov 07 when I upgraded my graphics card to a 8800 GTS - cost me +-R1800.
I think if I was spending 12K every couple of years on my PC then I think I would stick to my X360/PS3 - Na probably not!!.
I'm going to need an upgrade for Empire though.

Haha, yeah, maybe it is overdone. Thing is, I don't *really* enjoy upgrading each piece when the need arrives as it creates confusion and compatibility issues so I prefer to just buy a whole new PC. In fact, it's actually only every 4 or 5 years as I upgrade the graphics card in between each new PC. But to be honest, I am getting gatvol of keeping up with the latest, to no real world benefit. :)

Trying to keep up with the latest tech - thats when it does start to get expensive.
I like to hang on to my hard earned cash for as long as pos. so I only replace hardware when it is absolutely necessary.

I upgraded my PC 2 years ago, cost me about 5k to get a decent mid-high range system. Gonna have to upgrade again when Diablo 3 is released. Should cost me another 3K-5K. In the end it's worth it because most of time goes on playing RTS and FPS games online on the PC.

If you upgrade to decent stuff, it delays your following purchases.

When I was young and stupid I used to buy the latest and greatest on release, every 2-3 months new VGA, new CPU etc etc.

Now I upgrade once a year, do It decently and it lasts a long time

Once a year isn't a very long time.

Doesn't phase me, cause IF you take it like this, I Upgraded to a 4800x2 AMD a while back, 2 gig Kingston DDR1 and a Decent motherboard.

When I upgraded to my C2D, MOtherboard and OCZ ram, I sold my AMD stuff, and I hardly even touched my own funds for the purchase of the new stuff.

someone once asked me to take a pen, and a pencil. then i was asked to draw a stickman. well , they both could do the same thing . pc, and mac.

The pc is better than a console cause a pc is intially used to create the games for these consoles !

So then by that logic the forklift used to transfer parts of a Ferrari is better than a Ferrari as it is used to create the Ferrari? :D
