Solid State vs Conventional HDDs

The most reputable brand is Intel. And the 320 series is quite well priced you'll find. They have a 5 year warranty.

Now I know that on paper the vertex 3 outperforms the Intel but basically it's a minuscule difference compared to the difference between a platter drive and a decent SSD. Which is vast.

I was wondering if anyone has considered or done a swap of a PS3 hard drive for a Solid State?

I mean, that should speed up loading times etc as well?

Opinions anyone?

Very interesting point here. Would love to know if this would work, which I don't see why it shouldn't and what difference it would make.

It all depends on what the games are loaded on. If they are loaded on the Harddrive then they should load faster but if you play it off the disk you are still limited buy the disk read speed. SSD would then help nothing.

Yeah, I think most of the games install mostly to the HDD, and use the disk to verify it's an original... if it had to read from optical all the time the PS3 would be very slow methinks...

Nice find, thanks... I suppose the PS4 will have some kind of SSD, it makes sense to go that route and then develop games to use this to it's advantage.
