Sonic Generations [PC]

I brought this earlier this week and thought I was in for both another shitty Sonic The Hedgehog game and another shitty PC port. Boy was I wrong!

I'm 5 hours in and damn, it's actually awesome. Tons of content, graphics gorgeous, runs great on PC and is VERY true to classic Sonic games. Each stage is a beautiful HD rendition of a classic Sonic level from past games. Each stage is divided into 2 acts; Act 1 - You play as classic Sonic in 2D / Act 2 - you play as super fast modern Sonic in 3D.

Game has online rankings for speed runs, tons of challenges to keep you coming back and a lot of replayability. If you're a Sonic fan and don't own a console, then this is what you've been waiting for.

Available on Steam for $29.99 (R240) http://store.steampowered.com/app/71340/

TotalBiscut released a WTF is Sonic Generations vid yesterday, check it out for more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFkVk7Sp28I

when i saw your title on the forum i thought "Ai what did poor sonic do now again". Which is why im pleasantly surprised to hear the PC verson of Sonic Generations has put a smile on at least on persons face. Great post lordspaceman, will definitely pick it up for my little sister and even give it a try myself (^^,)

And its so damn cheap OMG I want this, correction, I NEEED THIS! Always loved Sonic, the ones on the DS was epic... I will be getting it on PC for support that they actually bringing out on my beloved platform, and most likely on 3DS aswell(if I has moneh)...

I used to be a huge sonic fan back in the days of Sega. Oh how I miss my Sonic and Knuckles Add-on cartridge :D

I still play them on MAME and Kgen though, and will look into this thanks dude :)

LOL that add-on cartridge was the best! only realised after like 2 months of having it when you put in a cartridge besides sonic, you get to play the bonus stages :)

Finished it last night. It really is a great game - really enjoyed it. Got my Super Sonic unlock but it costs a lot of skill points to use. I'm now making way through all the challenges (there are TONS), trying to get S Ranks and get all the skill unlocks - there is a Skill system. You unlock skills and can improve either modern or classic sonic and there are a lot of skills to unlock. (I haven't even unlocked half)

The game really does have a lot of replay value. I must say that I enjoyed some of the modern Sonic levels over the classic 2D levels (gasp!) - it's actually a lot of fun once you get used to it. I highly recommend this game be played with some sort of controller (Xbox 360 controller works fine). Playing with a keyboard is fine, but the controls are much harder to learn/get used to.

The game also takes the piss out of itself sometimes especially when younger Sonic, Tails and Robotnik meet the modern versions of themselves.

Younger Tails to Older Tails: "He collected how many rings? Wow! Where does he store all of them?"
Older Tails to Younger Tails: "You know... I've never bothered to ask..."

The babbling between old and new Robotnik is also very entertaining. "Do we ever catch that Hedgehog?....No."

Here is a list of all the playable stages and which Sonic game it comes from :

Green Hill - Sonic the Hedgehog
Chemical Plant - Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sky Sanctuary - Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Speed Highway - Sonic Adventure
City Escape - Sonic Adventure 2
Seaside Hill - Sonic Heroes
Crisis City - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
Rooftop Run - Sonic Unleashed
Planet Wisp - Sonic Colors

Sounds really kewl...was the biggest fan of sonic back in the day. thanks for the review

forward - forward - forward - forward - jump - jump - forward - forward!! Anyone remember this? :) Old school KTV I think it was.

Game looks good, looks worth grabbing.

Ordered an xbox360 controller so I can feel all nostalgic when I play this, not quite the big black and red megadrive 2 controller but it will do. Now if only shutdown would hurry up....

LOL...I remember thinking how bad they were...But now thinking back...voice controlled sonic can't be very easy. What I wouldn't do for a Reggies Rush! :-D

ROFL Cobalt!!! I always wanted to do one of those... wow even now I'd go bos!!!

Anyways I watched that entire WTF Is... video.... Lawdy! If for some odd reason I had doubt bout this game its gone now. Infact I'm even more excited now \:D/

Its a pity they put Sky Sanctuary from S3&K and not Ice Cap Zone in. Ice Cap Zone has still got some of the best music any video game has ever had.

There are a lot of rumours floating around that this game will have inevitable DLC. The game is even setup in such a way that they could plug in more stages with no problem.

I would like to see Marble Zone from Sonic 1, Casino Zone from Sonic 2 and Angel Island from Sonic 3.

Feel free to add me on Steam - can compare online speed runs via the leaderboard etc.
