Sony hacked once again, PSN restoration delayed

Okay. That's it. I'm not getting a PS3 anymore. Will stick to XBL.

I don't understand this mentality. Just because PSN is offline ATM you don't want a PS3? I thought the reason people bought one console over another is because of exclusives. So just because there is currently no online you don't want a console with Demon's Souls, inFamous 1 and 2, Uncharted 1,2 and 3, Killzone 2 and 3, Resistance 1, 2 and 3, and countless other great exclusives - most of which have excellent SP campaigns. Reminds me of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Funny thing is, this is quickly mutating into an Xbox vs. PS3 attack. So many Xbox users somehow feel vindicated and proud that this is happening, which I feel is disgusting and immature. While I do understand there is more to this than meets the eye (transformers!), I also feel that your average consumer is the one really suffering here.

I have not really read about the motives behind all these attacks, but honestly, what is this REALLY achieving? Perhaps something good in the long term. But is all this fuss really worth what is happening?

From my understanding they want to hurt Sony (...the validity of their reasoning is debatable, but let's not get in to that right now). The most effective way to hurt a juggernaut like Sony would be to hurt the brand and turn consumers away from buying their products. And, you must admit, there will be a large number of people who aren't tech-savvy but just want tot play games (...my uneducated guess would be that it probably makes up the larger percentage of console owners) and those people may well choose an alternative rather than buying a PS3 now.
So, I'd say they are achieving a great deal.
Whether or not that benefits you and .... let's not go down that road either for fear of that discussion hijacking the thread.

If Anonymous wants to teach anyone a lesson, it should be Microsoft... who is clearly the winners when it comes to exorbitant charges on products and licensing etc...

So anonymous, please back away from the Sony and go take down XBL or something..... (PLEASE..... :|)

I beg to differ. The average non-tech-savvy person doesn't even know how to connect a PS3 to PSN in the first place. They want to play games yes, but not online and since these hacks don't (and never will) affect offline gaming, it isn't achieving much. I should know, I work in a game store and we still sell lots of PS3's and PS3 games on a daily basis.

Hmmm.... very interesting to know. Thanks!
One question still remains unanswered in all of this... "has useable subscriber data been stolen during the hack?"
And i don't only mean credit card info, but anything that can be used against those people to cause problems for them.
I guess only time will tell. I truly hope not, cos then it's been taken to a personal level against PSN users. That will be a disaster and, even though it may hurt Sony badly, the harm done to ordinary unsuspecting people around the world will be too high a price to pay for the statement they're trying to make.

IF any of the data stolen by Anonymous is used by themselves for personal gain or harming Sony's customers in any way, they will lose whatever credibility they might or might not have. It is one thing to attack Sony and hurt Sony because of whatever dispute, but to go after Sony's customers just highlights the immaturity and recklessness of this entire endeavor.

Well if these hackers continue to do what they are busy doing then there will definitely be a bit of conflict between xbox and ps3 users because ps3 people can't play online...yet again :/

I'm with you on this one Wlad. Yes its fraking anoying that PSN is down since i am FREAKING dying to play Back to the Future Episode 3 but there are more than enough awesome SP game available on the PS3 to still make it a viable console.

I dont know, it seems the longer this continues the more people talk about jumping ship i dont get it... Sony will eventually restore the network, and according to IGN this morning it would be around May 31, 2011. Yes that is a log way off, which is sad but if they put up a betternetwork that is a plus isnt it?

As for the ability to play online, so we a little stranded i didnt play a lot of games online, and the offline Sp games are abundant enough to keep you going for a long while...
