Sony May Be Adding PS2 Backwards Compatibility to PS4

Ahead of Sony’s TGS conference tomorrow, a new report by Eurogamer gives us that much more reason to be excited about just what Sony might have in store for all of us (beyond Persona 5, of course)- according to Gematsu, The Pan European Game Information Board (PEGI, which is the European equivalent of the ESRB) has rated PlayStation 2 classics Ape Escape 2, Dark Cloud 2 (Dark Chronicle in Europe), and Twisted Metal: Black for PlayStation 4, implying that these games are being re-released for Sony’s newest system.

Considering that they are all from three different franchises, and that, though they each have cult followings, none of them was exactly a massive seller, it makes sense that this re-release will happen via the PSN Store’s PS Classics section. PS Classics are already sold on PSP, PS3, and PS Vita; the PS4 is the only Sony system not offering some form of backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, and that may likely change at Sony’s TGS show tomorrow, where this will probably be one of the things being announced.

I would be more impressed with PS3 backwards compatibility. However any form of backwards compatibility for my currently owned games will be a plus. Just don't make me buy them again from your online marketplace...

Am I the only on who finds backwards compatibility to more than one generation stupid? please stop this as well as remakes.. I want new games, not old games that are just a bit prettier

Backwards compatibility really doesnt interest me... I dont get why its such a big deal to so many people...

if PS4 goes backwards compatible Im buying it immediately.

I have a PS3 and PS2, I play them regularly. Its just cool. Having 1 machine that can play all my games in one place and not have multiple machines is awesome. It just is.

I dont get why Metallica is such a big deal, but they are and its something I must just deal with.

Let's just skip 3 entire and go another generation back; the PS2. Can they not in the same process make it PS3 and 2 BC?

Agreed. I have a PS2 for PS2 games, PS3 for PS3 games and PS4 for PS4 games. I just prefer playing the game on it's original system.

I really don't care one way or the other. Give me new games! To hell with backward compatibility. Older games are an eyesore!

This is just a possibility still. It's easier for them to emulate the PS2 than the PS3?

Is it because of the PS3's cell CPU architecture that makes it almost difficult/impossible to emulate on the PS4's x86 hardware?
