Sony, Panasonic plan next-gen optical discs

In other news.... Microsost decides to use a different version of the next-gen disc technology in their next XBox offering, and it fails again....

I honestly don't get why "discs" are even relevant any longer.

Maybe I've gotten too accustomed to my 200Mbps connection but seriously... "discs?" That's like Telkom sticking to copper infrastructure instead of moving on with the times and adapting.

But, in that same vein, I can understand why optical discs remain relevant in countries with rubbish and/or overpriced internet access.

Heh, the last software update Autodesk sent my company was in a 16Gb flash drive before that it was 4 disks I think. Now they sent an email saying in the future you can download all future updates.

Optical disks FTW! Imagine how many other peripherals I would have broken if CDs weren't lying around all over the place :)
