Sony patent ties discs to accounts

This will happen as more publishers rally against second hand sales this will happen sooner rather than later and i can promise you Microsoft and Nintendo will follow suit soon enough with something similar

Rather sad, but it almost seems inevitable. This particular Nextbox rumour has received a lot of traction all over the Web. Too my discontent I must add. Especially seeing as console games are so expensive. I do so enjoy checking the bargain bin trying to find that classic I missed because of budget reasons.

Second hand sales is taking from the developer, however you paint it.

Yeah and second hand car sales are killing the industry! Whatever...

I won't be surprised (and actually quite content) if this backlashes and causes a massive spike in console piracy.

The only effective way to stop piracy is to sell the games for cheaper. Any other method is doomed to fail.

An understandable answer would be nice.

I'm sorry if I laughed as it seemed you were born under a rock. My bad.

The reason why console games are so expensive is that sony and microsoft changes extra fees on each game. This is called royalties which of course pushed up the price. Then there is also the additional greed and taxes slapped on because we are not in the US.

In even further layman's terms: Developers/Publishers have to pay Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo money in order to release their game on the relevant platform.
