Sony Playstation

Most of my gaming memories came from one device: the Sony Playstation. There were so many little things associated with the console, but I'll try and get many of them into the post. (This post serves as an expansion on my original post).

1. That Sound

One of the most memorable features of the console was the start-up sound and Playstation animation. This was the trademark sound of the console generation. Don't know it? Are you sure? Why are you reading this?

Anyway, another little nostalgia bomb for you: the original start-up sound of the Playstation. This may well be the sound that was heard when the universe was made:

That just happened.

2. Those games

The other awesome aspect was the library of games that were available for it. Spyro the Dragon, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Abe's Odyssey, Ape Escape, Driver, Final Fantasy VII+VIII+IX, etc. There are so many that it will be ridiculous to try and name them all. This was one of the most impressive line ups of games to have ever graced a console in recent years.

3. That culture

It was difficult to go to a mate's house and NOT be able to play a game on a Playstation. For the first time in years, I could go to almost any mall and check out console games in stores like Dion of all places (it was the era before gaming store chains). Everyone was Playstation bedonnerd. In some cases, regardless on what console or type of video games you were playing, people referred to it as "hy is besig om Playstation te speel". Yup, it had a massive following.

There is no denying the greatness of Sony's first console and the trail that it blazed in the gaming industry. This is one of my earliest, and favourite, gaming memories.
