Sony reportedly developing PlayStation 4.5

Interesting development - it seems that consoles may be heading the way of PC's where one needs to upgrade periodically to keep up. If that's going to be the case you may as well get a PC - sure it's expensive to upgrade but that is balanced out by the cheaper games.

I would would not bother upgrading, if this was indeed an official announcement from Sony themselves.

4k res and... 30fps?

Not happening.

To pull even 30 fps @ 4K you'll need a GTX980 or R9 390X minimum and even then the settings will have to be lowered.
So the cost involved is a lot, much more than most console gamers are willing to spend.

The only way I see this working is if it is only the resolution that gets boosted no other increase in effects or fps.Maybe Sony thinks there is a market for a elitist ps4 sort of like ms made that overpriced controller.
I still think this is b.s. though.

I'd be really disappointed if they released a stronger console and they started releasing exclusive titles for the new system. I can't believe they'd be willing to cut out a large portion of their install-base at this stage so I expect that either we'll start seeing graphics settings that allow games to look/play better on the new system, or this upgrade will only boost the fps and resolutions for those bothered by those kind of things...

Yeah sounds really unlikely. Plus there is the power consumption and heat generation to take in to account.

If true, I hope the PS4 prices drop. So I can finally upgrade.

Still on PS3 for exclusives, have Steam for the rest.

You aren't at all concerned about the possibility of a "new 3DS" situation what with PSVR rolling out and the chance to develop new games for the new system

No I'm not concerned at all.

  1. Upscaling is something even a TV can do, so it's nothing special.
  2. I don't really care about consoles all that much.
