Soundcard - Creative/Asus

Hi,

So I'm almost definitely going to upgrade my sound card to go with a new set of quality headphones. My main concern is the sound quality in games - positional audio. I'm choosing between the Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro and the Asus Xonar Essence STX. From what I've read the Fatality Pro is the best option for games and is brilliant for being able to tell the position and distance of sounds. The Essence STX is supposed to be incredible for music and good for games as well. I can't seem to find anyone locally who sells the Creative card, so I might not have any option but to go for the Asus (unless someone here knows how I can organise it).

Has anyone got any of these cards and what are your opinions?

Asus XOnar Cards are great, the essence is not their best, but is a very good card
As far as Creative goes, no one imports their cards anymore, so I guess your choice has been made for you :)

Just read some more reviews and most people say that the gaming quality of the X-Fi is noticeable over the Xonar. Managed to find it on Sybartic.co.za, anyone bought from there before?

Yep, Creative cards haven't been officially imported into SA for the last two years... :/

*edit*

Yeah, I've bought through Sybaritic. Fairly decent service. The card is kinda expensive though >.<

I've only bought a sound card once before. I know that if I'm going to spend over 1k on one, I've gotta make the right decision!

Im actually quite shocked to find that creative sound cards are so hard to find now..
I have a creative XFI sound card and its served be well for 4 years now , its a surround sound card and works perfectly on windows 7.

If you are willing to pay R800 for a card I would go with this one, seeing some positive reviews.
The higher end cards in the rage seem to also cater for people who produce music and that seems like overkill , maybe im wrong but thats my opinion.

Thanks kerbyross for this, I've certainly been a creative labs kinda gal but recently upgraded my motherboard which had only two pci slots so i had to get rid of my soundblaster card. I am definately in the market to get me a Creative Labs card whether locally or internationally, still sourcing it.

I got the Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro and it's working like a beaut. Still waiting on the Kaves to get the proper experience I'm looking for.
