Soundcard or software problem?

Before any of you say anything about hearing voices....

As of this weekend, I have been unable to hear anything other than background music when watching DVDs. Voices sound muffled or echo when I am playing games, though again, there is nothing wrong with the music. I have not enabled the environmental effects "feature" on my Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS, so I do not think that that is causing the problem.

I first noticed this when I started playing Dragon Age this weekend.

Have you any ideas as to why this is happening?

If not, at least I have onboard sound to fall back on.

Hehehe......yeah. Only noticed that now. Fixed.

i had the same issue and my jack wasn't properly seated. could also be a slider that has magically moved to less volume. maybe a bad codec or two. reinstalled the drivers ?

Talking about hearing voices, my old ear phones somehow picked up the signals from a portable (land line) phone we have, I think my new headphones can to....

sorry can't help

I continue to have the same problem with a poorly seated jack. Fiddle with it and the sound is 100s again. Happens everytime I change between headphones and speakers.

Crappy case & mobo quality is what it is.

huh ?

well i use an extension from my sound card's out at the back of my case where i have that cable coming to the front and wee bit down the table. there i just connect to it my head phones or speakers without any issues yet.

well once i didn't connect the jack properly the the extension which resulted in funky audio- this is why i stated that the jack wasn't seated properly.

I took out the jack and plugged it back in, so that may not be it.

I checked ALL of my volume settings last night. [Both Windows settings and those in Creative Audio Console]

I wonder if Dragon Age installed something that is causing this.
So far as codecs are concerned, I have not installed any third-party
codecs.

I tried to find an uninstall option for my Audigy 2's drivers last night but was unsuccessful.

It looks as though Creative are not all that interested in providing drivers for older cards: there latest non-beta Windows 7 driver was released in June 2009.

I'll give that a try tonight.

Thanks

I reinstalled the drivers. Problem solved.
