Spam SMS's WTF!!!?

Hallo people,
k so I haven't received a spam sms in the last 6 years... until 4:53 this morning (I HATE SPAM :mad:). I am not happy at all. I have always been extra careful of where I write down, give, input my number and email. I had just won R750 000 in a Nokia lucky draw. Holly crap...really, a Nokia lucky draw? So I had to phone some nut to claim my prize. I was so disgusted I deleted the dam message while I was still half asleep. I am sure I will receive another soon.

O and since I applied for a new credit card with "Some Bank" end of last year every one wants to give me new phone and a new "Bigger and Better" credit card.(No, I did not tick the little "Marketing" box on the application) Can anyone remember how to completely stop anyone from asking me anything? Where can I report these cellphone numbers sending around these scam sms's? I remember there where websites where you remove yourself from recieveing any marketing info etc.

Would really appreciate.

Also receive all sorts of crap. Also phone calls from private numbers, answered the last one with : "where did you get my number?" threw them off balance.

Try tell them, "can't talk now, can only phone you back later, what is your cell number"

I once said hellos satan speaking how may I serve you.

Lol there was just silence at the other en d and they put it down.

I've been receiving endless spam SMS and letters promising credit cards in my mail ever since getting my ABSA credit card. Worst part, I would never have ticked a box that said they can share my stuff with third parties for marketing purposes, so it must have been hidden in the T&C's. Will teach me to read EVERYTHING before I sign a document next time.

I hate the fact that random people at Woolworth's and other places know where I stay so that they can send me promotional shit.

Worst part? I've got a student credit card with a measly R200 limit, but out of the blue Edgars sends me a card which I can go activate. Credit limit? R2000. How in the fuck do they send me, an unemployed student, a club card with a R2000 limit?

Dis mos nou vir kak vra?

It's Edgars bro, they'll put you on clothing shelf duty for the rest of your life!

Registering on dma's "opt. out database" (site http://www.dmasa.org/ ) is the way to go ... apparently. I didn't like the fact that I had to input all of my details, but hey, they've got it all anyway. Go and check out the list of members... all the people that's been contacting me is on there and by registering they are not allowed to contact me any more! Will see if it works within the next few weeks.

Oh cool, I'm gonna def check that out, thanks for the link

spam is lame...

I will definitely have a look at signing on the DMA database, I'm tired of getting stuff from Truworths, Bradlows, and random places I've never even shopped at. Along with the TV licence messages I get to pay my licence even though I don't own a TV :/

If you have an android phone think about getting something that will let you block calls/SMS messages from sources you don't want, don't know or are hidden, there's even some free apps that will let you do this. It was the main reason I wanted a smartphone and now the only way I even know about any spam calls or SMS messages is if I check the logs of what's been blocked.
