Well, my ineternet connection died yesterday so I'm asuming that my issues were down to a line problem. I'll wait till it's sorted out and try playing again to see if it's any better.

Solution to Toxin's dilema... get it on Xbox.
Step 1: Buy Game
Step 2: Go Home
Step 3: Put disk in Xbox
Step 4: Play Game
Step 5: Love it.
The End.

If Ubisoft is going to stick to this type of DRM then this will unfortunately be the way to go.

Altho......

Bought the game on friday, installed it on Saturday morning. Spent 30 minutes trying to get it to work, got pissed off, cracked it. GG Ubisoft.

.....this will more than likely be the way that most PC gamers will tackle the issue.
